Before heading out, know where your production is currently playing…
Are you ready for another round of “Show Shuffleboard”? Earlier this summer, we published a three-part series on shows that had opened, closed, or relocated. That was then, and this is now. Today we’ll catch up with the latest on Sin City’s resident productions.
OPENINGS
WONDERGROUND at Area 15 – A fresh line-up of performers guarantees a new experience every time. Ringmaster Will Bradshaw presents well-known and fast-rising names in magic like Caleb Alexander, Xavier Mortimer, Mon Dre, and Jeff McBride. Located at THE WALL inside Area 15. Click here for schedule, line-up, and tickets.
BEYOND BRUNCH at Area 15 – Andrew Ryan of DIVAS LAS VEGAS and AFAN spearheads the latest adults-only weekend variety brunch. Also located at THE WALL inside Area 15, BEYOND BRUNCH features sexy circus acts, drag performers, acrobatics, and comedy. Options include buffet, show-only, and a mimosa-flight add-on. Click here for menu, schedule, and tickets.
MOTOWN BRUNCH at Ahern Hotel – Just a few minutes from Area 15, AHERN BOUTIQUE HOTEL has expanded its resident entertainment options this year. KING OF DIAMONDS relocated to their showroom from Alexis Park Resort, and now ADMIT.VIP Entertainment (which also owns VEGAS 411) has added MOTOWN BRUNCH to the roster.
Performers EC Adams, Patrice Petway (Flashback), JR Phelps and Ariel Knight provide vibrant vocals to accompany a menu curated by Chef Joel Ott (Joel’s Chophouse). The show is a soul sister to ALL MOTOWN, the long-running hit at Modern Showrooms. Click here for menu, schedule, and tickets.
WISEGUYS COMEDY at Westgate Las Vegas – The third Sin City location for Wiseguys Comedy is springing up at Westgate Las Vegas. It fills the laughter void left by COMEDY CABARET when THE KING COMES HOME moved in. Confused? Don’t be. Things are always changing, which is why we’re here to help.
Created by comedian Keith Stubbs, Wiseguys Comedy features big names and an ever-changing roster of guests. The Westgate location officially launches on September 20. Click here for schedule, line-up, and ticketing information.
THE VIOLUTION: Heroines and Heroes at Notoriety Live – Electric violinist Jennifer Lynn and brooding drummer Patrick Caccia are the core players in THE VIOLUTION, a symphonic take on classic rock and metal. Original compositions are interspersed with covers of songs by Queen, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, and more. Click here for dates, showtimes, and to reserve you seats.
MOVING
The Hilarious 7 to OYO Hotel – Mimicking the successful concepts behind speed dating, The Hilarious 7 offers seven comedians in 70 minutes. Always something different and constantly changing, The Hilarious 7 is the comedy equivalent of a San Francisco weather forecast.
Formerly at Alexis Part Resort, The Hilarious 7 returns to its original home at OYO HOTEL on August 1st. Hosted by John Hilder, H7 promises “the cure for the common stand-up show.” For information, tickets, and show times, follow this link.
K-TEL ALL-STARS to OYO Hotel – What The Docksiders is to “yacht rock”, K-tel All-Stars is to a summer in the 70s. The band covers beloved hits from that retro-cool decade like a massive picnic blanket.
Members Michael O’Mara, Larry Hampton, Seth Kreiswirth, Jeffrey Bryan, and Brian Paulson were recently inducted into the California Music Hall of Fame. After a successful summer tour, the band is settling into OYO HOTEL beginning August 25th. Get tickets by clicking here.
AUSSIE HEAT to OYO Hotel – Feeling handsy? Then get your grubby paws to OYO Hotel for AUSSIE HEAT. Yes, another production moving to the former HOOTERS CASINO. What’s up with that? Who cares. What’s relevant is that affordable shows are expanding outward, and more options means more fun.
While this writer is a longtime fan of AUSSIE HEAT, I think it’s due for a rebranding. Despite being around for several years, AUSSIE HEAT still gets confused with THUNDER FROM DOWN UNDER. The cast has broadened to add a more international flair, yet still hot as ever. And while other male revues discourage touching, AUSSIE HEAT encourages it.
After two years at ALEXIS PARK RESORT, the men of AUSSIE HEAT land at OYO Hotel beginning August 1st. Click here for showtimes and tickets.
MISSING
BurlesQ, formerly at Alexis Park Resort – Last August, BurlesQ celebrated its 500th show with a gala celebration. The party would double as a temporary farewell while the production was retooled and expanded. Nearly a year later, there’s no buzz about a return, and many cast members have moved onto other shows. If VEGAS 411 learns of a relaunch, we will tell you about it.
WONDERLAND, formerly at Alexis Park Resort – WONDERLAND is a wild and wonky take on “Alice In Wonderland” (see my review here). The family-friendly musical comedy quietly disappeared from the Modern Showrooms schedule earlier this year. Is it on hiatus? Will it return for the holidays? Inquiring minds want to know.
SPICE WANNABE, formerly at Excalibur – Okay, so it’s not really “missing” since it had a proper send-off. But we’re gonna place it here anyway, just to give SPICE WANNABE the shout-out it deserves.
SPICE WANNABE – The Spice Girls Tribute had its final performance at Excalibur Resort on July 28th, and it was a bittersweet farewell. Industry insiders, entertainers, friends and family filled the THUNDER SHOWROOM to overflowing with flowers, champagne, tears, and hugs.
After the final bows, producer Adam Steck announced that the show would be going on tour. Will the Girls return, perhaps in a smaller showroom? Time will tell. That would certainly give devoted Spice Girls fans what they really, really want.
