MATT RIFE Already Bit Into Las Vegas - And You Had No Idea

The nation's hottest comic shot an upcoming feature film right under our noses...

The name "Matt Rife" is likely to get one of these two reactions: "Who is that?" or "OMG, I love him!". There are few detractors to the fast-thinking comedian with male-model looks and physique. Women and gay guys lust after him, straight men want to be him, and Rife has quickly become the fastest-rising stand-up in the nation. Facebook and other social media outlets went wild this past week when tickets became available for two dates at Cosmopolitan's Chelsea Theater in September. Despite the exorbitant prices, seats were gobbled up immediately. The performances are part of Rife's ProbleMATTic World Tour, which was heavily promoted in a video featuring Ashton Kutcher: [embed]https://youtu.be/hLiteFurJZc[/embed] If you're one of the thousands who are kicking yourself for missing out on the show, you may have already encountered Matt without knowing. It turns out that he and a movie crew shot a feature film in and around Las Vegas last year, and it'll be released to theaters and streaming platforms soon. DON'T SUCK is a fantasy about vampire "Ethan Barr", who wants to perform stand-up comedy. It stars Rife as the undead wannabe comic, and Jamie Kennedy as a struggling entertainer tasked with launching the blood-sucker's career. There are familiar Sin City entertainers like Carrot Top, Lisa Wilcox (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 and 5, Campfire), Kathleen Dunbar (Westgate Comedy Cabaret, Ahern Live) and Jimmie Walker (Good Times).

The high-concept comedy was co-produced by Don Barnhart, who was recently featured in this Vegas 411 article on Delirious Comedy Club. It was directed/produced by RJ Collins and written by Rick D'Elia. D'Elia is currently performing aboard a cruise ship. I chatted with him on Friday as the comedian was weathering a storm at sea. The creator of CW's Half Hour Happy Hour had this to say about DON'T SUCK:

"We are releasing theatrically in August but I don’t have exact dates yet. Probably will over the next couple of weeks. Streaming will follow a couple of months after that. They (VMI Worldwide Distributors) were going to wait until Halloween, considering the topic of the movie. But considering how global Matt has become in the last few weeks they’re scrambling to get it out there ASAFP!"

Westgate Las Vegas hosted an advance screening of DON'T SUCK on May 10th. With luck, an official premiere will follow. VEGAS 411 will keep in touch with D'Elia for updated information. In the meantime, you can head to Ticketmaster for seats to Matt Rife's World Tour. And be sure to follow the Facebook pages of Rick D'Elia and Don Barnhart for upcoming shows.
