She’s somewhat new in town but already making an impact. VEGAS 411 introduces you to Monique Maffei Hester…
It’s not often that an entertainer defies categorization from every conceivable angle. Whether it be a genre, style, or target audience, most performers fit under a particular umbrella. Not so with Monique Maffei Hester.
A singer/speaker/author/producer who’s relatively new to Sin City, Monique walks a path that isn’t necessarily defined. And that’s one of her most intriguing strengths.
I first met Monique after a summer evening performance at The Composers Room. The show, a tribute to Broadway and Motown Soul, featured appearances by beloved singer/comedienne Barbara Brighton and the soulful Teddy Davis Jr. As with its star, the show colored outside the lines.

Audience members included musician Anthony James, comic headliner Carlos Mencia, singer Elektra Heavenly, and Mr. Olympia winner Danny Hester (Maffei’s spouse). A unique gathering of individuals, to be sure. As with anything Monique touches, the evening was punctuated with comedy, surprises, inspiration, and genre-defying crossovers.
Since then, the former Californian has appeared on the Mark O’Toole and Dennis Bono variety shows. She also launched GOLDEN VOICE—A Tribute to Connie Francis at The Composers Room. An expanded version with a live band will play Sun City Anthem’s Freedom Hall on June 21st. Before that, Monique will return to Dennis Bono and join Kelly Vohnn to entertain at a F.I.O.R.E. Club luncheon.
Since our fortuitous meeting last summer, I’ve been eager to feature Monique at VEGAS 411. But in what column? Should it be “Women In Song“? “Real Vegas People“? Whether by design or circumstance, Monique cannot be packaged. So I decided to use this intro as a lead-in to TALES FROM THE SPOTLIGHT. That’s my feature wherein the subject “does the talking”.
