Mind-blowing documentary unspools the tale of a ‘Jackie Wilson’ tribute artist who learns he’s actually the star’s illegitimate son.

We’ve all heard the saying “Truth is stranger than fiction”. How would you react if you learned that you were the secret son of an entertainer you professionally impersonated? That’s the story of Bobby Wilson and his father Jackie Wilson, an iconic singer who died in tragedy and poverty.
Nicknamed “Mr. Excitement” due to his dynamic moves and onstage energy, Jackie Wilson is said to have deeply inspired Elvis Presley. The two were friends, and their stories are somewhat similar. Mired in controversy, rumors, and acts of outrageousness, Jackie’s tragic downfall was steeped in drugs, excess, and serious health issues.
Jackie Wilson was known to be quite a “ladies’ man”, and he fathered many illegitimate children to several different women. Three of his offspring died tragically at young ages, and one had no idea that Jackie Wilson was his father until well into adulthood. His name is Bobby Brooks Wilson, and his story is so amazing that it’s covered in an award-winning new documentary called “The Last Teardrop“.

A music industry insider, who declined to be interviewed for this article, told me that there’s a great deal more to Bobby’s story than the public knows. How much of that “intrigue” is covered in the documentary remains to be seen.
There will be a screening of The Last Teardrop at AMC Theaters Town Square on Thursday, September 21st. Showtime is at 7 pm, with a red carpet event at 6 pm. Celebrities invited to attend include
