Award-winning female impersonation revue joins an impressive portfolio of vintage Vegas-themed productions at MODERN SHOWROOMS.
Last year I published a series entitled “Summer Show Shuffle“. It actually required four installments to cover all of the relocations that were taking place at the time. Unless a production is located inside a purpose-built venue, chances are it may find another theater by the next time you visit.
Spaces that house multiple shows are most likely to be mentioned when one relocates. David Saxe’s currently-troubled V THEATER, MODERN SHOWROOMS AT ALEXIS PARK RESORT HOTEL, and the former Mosaic Theater immediately come to mind. It can be a win-win for both theater owners and producers to mix things up and test the waters with different demographics. AUSSIE HEAT is one such example. The male revue has been in four separate venues since arriving in the States, and its spin-off ROCK CANDY played at Alexis Park during the pandemic.
So it’s no surprise that, after a successful stint at NOTORIETY, award-winning FABULOUS! The Show (our choice for “Best Drag Production” two years running) is moving closer to the Strip. Beginning March 9th, the all-singing female impersonation revue will grace the stages at MODERN SHOWROOMS OF ALEXIS PARK. The creators and cast of FAAABULOUS! couldn’t be more excited:
“We had a terrific two-year run at NOTORIETY,” states Christopher Kenney, who created FAAABULOUS! alongside Jamie Morris (PUPPETRY OF THE PENIS, SCHARTT’S CREEK). “We’re so appreciative for the opportunity to launch our show in the midst of all of the pandemic craziness.”
“We are very excited about the next phase of FAAABULOUS!” Kenney continued “and looking forward to working with the team at The Modern Showrooms. The recent remodel of their stages is exquisite; it’s the perfect fit for our show. We are honored to join their entertainment family and to share the stage with an already killer line-up!”
You might be puzzled as to why I refer to FAAABULOUS! The Show as “classic Vegas entertainment”, but it truly is. Long before RuPaul’s army of outrageousness spackled itself with clown makeup and vulgarity, the elegant art of female impersonation was a tried and true Vegas mainstay. Long-running LA CAGE at Riviera, Kenny Kerr’s THIS IS BOYLESQUE at Silver Slipper, and DIVAS LAS VEGAS at Imperial Palace were not only culturally significant but successful to the point of legend.
Fan-favorite “Sunshine” (Joe Harter) is an accomplished pianist, vocalist, and dancer
FAAABULOUS! The Show takes those memorable productions and injects them with high-octane live vocals, original dance numbers with strapping young studs, and set pieces that salute icons like Barbra Streisand and Liza Minelli. If that isn’t “vintage Vegas”, then nothing is.
So FAABULOUS! is the perfect compliment to Alexis Park titles like FRANKLY, FRANK, THE CARPENTERS LEGACY, ALL MOTOWN, Elvis tribute ALL SHOOK UP, and showgirl-centric BurlesQ. And Alexis Park Resort offers a couple of perks that NOTORIETY couldn’t, like free parking and being within walking distance of numerous LGBTQ spots like Piranha Nightclub, FreeZone, and QuadZ Video Bar.
BurlesQ bills itself as “The Classic Las Vegas Showgirl Show”
“The Modern Showrooms’ partnership with Alexis Park Resort Hotel has always purposely focused on stage shows. We continue to stay true to that mission with our continually growing roster of classic and eclectic shows”, said Pete Housley, CEO of Admit VIP, which operates the Modern Showrooms.
“Faaabulous! The Show is unique in Las Vegas, and it’s the perfect energetic nightcap for the mix of entertainment in residency with us as we continue to make our mark on Las Vegas history.”
Athena Showlounge boasts luxury seating, VIP booths, and state-of-the-art lighting and sound
FAAABULOUS! is hosted by “Edie Entertainer”, played by Christopher Kenney himself. The former ZUMANITY emcee and “Mistress of Sensuality” is returning from a successful run of EDIE WITH A “D” in Puerto Vallarta. New cast member “Bizzy Monroe” (Jon Morgan of ZOMBIE BURLESQUE) will debut on opening night.
Managing Producer John Good assures me that after a few weeks of evening performances, the FAAABULOUS! Sunday Brunch will be returning as well. Expect a revamped menu, as Alexis Park Resort has reopened Alexis Gardens Restaurant on the property. We’ll update you when that schedule of reservations opens up.
Drag Brunch is served
FAAABULOUS! The Show will perform Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday at 10 pm beginning March 9th. Tickets start at $43 (plus taxes/fees) and are available here. Audience members must be 21+. ALEXIS PARK RESORT is located a few blocks east of Planet Hollywood Hotel at 355 E. Harmon Avenue.
