UPDATE 7/4/22 – Since the publication of this article, CARPENTERS LEGACY has announced a move to MODERN SHOWROOMS at ALEXIS PARK RESORT. Click here for the latest information on that show shuffle.
It seems like only yesterday that I brought CARPENTERS TRIBUTE CONCERT close to you in this piece for Vegas Unfiltered. Since then, the site has changed names and moved to VEGAS 411. Now consummate entertainers Ned Mills and Sally Olson are doing the same. A newly-rechristened CARPENTERS LEGACY has landed at The Mint, and it is indeed yesterday once more.
There’s really no need to tell you about the legendary brother-and-sister team that made up The Carpenters. You either know and love their music or you don’t. What’s relevant for a tribute to their music is the level of authenticity, and this is where the stars of CARPENTERS LEGACY absolutely shine. Their uncanny physical resemblance is the perfect compliment to spot-on vocals, mannerisms, and body language. In a previous review, I stated that “Sally Olson and Ned Mills perfectly embody Karen and Richard Carpenter. Backed by a superlative live band, they’re nothing short of astounding.”
It’s no secret that 2021 was particularly tough on established productions. Some, like VEGAS! The Show, have yet to reopen. CARPENTERS LEGACY was fortunate to start the summer with a residency at Town Square, which dovetailed into several gigs around the country. Now that the duo is on top of the world, they’ve scaled back on traveling and are eager to bring those good old dreams to the Strip.
The Mint might not technically be on Las Vegas Boulevard but is a mere three blocks away. The neon-festooned bar and lounge boasts a 90-seat showroom and is located in the shadow of historic Sahara Hotel Casino. Its design was inspired by the original Mint Casino which once stood on Fremont Street. Absorbed into Binion’s Gambling Hall, The Mint became a part of Sin City history until being reborn at its current location.
Along with THE CARPENTERS LEGACY, The Mint is home to other great entertainment like “Dean and Mala’s Entertainment Showcase”, “Crooners, Inc.”, “Eddie Clendening and the Blue Ribbon Boys”, and “Dimmare’s MARTINIS and MAGIC”. Open 24/7, The Mint has weekday Happy Hour specials from 4 pm to 7 pm. They also offer Signature Cocktails and 24-hour gaming, all in an atmosphere saluting an era when wonderful songs from The Carpenters were front and center.
THE CARPENTERS LEGACY opens June 21st and will perform Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 4 pm and 7 pm. Tickets start at $39.95 and include one drink. They can be ordered here.
The Mint is located at 332 West Sahara Avenue. Phone 702-776-3313 for more information.
