5 Greatest Moments in Las Vegas Sports History

What are the greatest moments in Las Vegas sports history? Here are our picks

#4 Formula One street race comes to Las Vegas

In 2023, Formula 1 came back to Sin City for the first time in decades with the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Max Verstappen ran away with another victory, and the event was so popular that it’s coming back. The 3.8-mile course took F1 cars through the twists and turns of the Las Vegas Strip at night.

F1 first came to Vegas in the early 80s with the Caesars Grand Prix, but it wasn’t the right format, and the race failed to capture interest. 2023 saw a completely different race.

#3 Las Vegas Golden Knights win their first title

The Las Vegas Golden Knights were founded in 2017, and they ended their inaugural season with a 51-24 record and a march toward the Stanley Cup Finals. Of course, they were destroyed by the Washington Capitals in a 3-1 series, but the seeds were firmly planted for redemption.

Seven years later, the Golden Knights took their first title after defeating the Florida Panthers in a pretty one-sided Stanley Cup Finals. They also went 16 -6 in the playoff, with Adin Hill anchoring their goalie rotation. Then there were guys like Jack Eichel, Jonathan Marchessault, and Chandler Stephenson, who all helped rally the team to win the title.

Maybe the best part of this moment in sports history is that we all knew it was coming. No one in Las Vegas doubted this team’s potential after that incredible first season.

#2 The Las Vegas Aces win back-to-back titles

Let the record show that in 2022 the Las Vegas Aces became the first team to win a championship for Las Vegas. They quickly followed it up with a second one in 2023, going back to back. The Aces marched to the Finals again with some of the best stats in the WNBA.

The Aces finished the 2022 season with a 26-10 record in the regular season. They then ran roughshod in the playoffs with a record of 8-2, including a 3-1 series victory against the Connecticut Suns. The next year they finished 24-6 in the regular season, 9-1 in the playoffs, and 3-1 in the Finals. This time they beat the New York Liberty in a more competitive series.

The Aces are Sin City’s best team and show no sign of slowing down.  There’s no way they can with megastars like A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, and Jackie Young on the hardwood. They also have Becky Hamon as head coach, which is probably one of their greatest weapons.

Las Vegas hosted the 2024 Super Bowl in Allegiant Stadium and made history in the process. The Kansas City Chiefs took on the San Francisco 49ers, and the game went into overtime.

The Kansas City Chiefs won the game with a last-second touchdown, but it was still a very competitive matchup. This Super Bowl featured a little bit of everything, and that added to its uniqueness. It was also the highest-viewed broadcast since the moon landing. These ratings guarantee that the Big Game will come back to Sin City.
