Are Las Vegas Resort Fees Avoidable?

Resort fees are a Las Vegas staple.

The fees typically fall between $35 and $45 per night and can be a rude shock to visitors who ordered the services through online travel agency websites (OTA’s) like Hotels.com, Orbitz, Travelocity, etc., as the resort fees are not displayed on OTA’s.

Avoid Hotels with Resort Fees

Fortunately, resort fees are not universal, and some hotels are not charging any fee for your stays (yet). Book to stay in these hotels:

Get a Condo from the Owner

Renting an owner-operated condo can be a way to escape paying the resort fees in Las Vegas. The method is not foolproof, so take time to sift the contract and get the legalese out of the way to ensure no fees. Condos can be comfortable and offer amenities such as a full kitchen and balcony without sacrificing the resort experience.

Look out for Offers

Sometimes it is impossible to find a casino that does not charge any resort fees. Well, you shouldn’t give up yet. Scout for different offers, promotions, and discounts that are ongoing. Select hotels that have the offers, they may help offset the cost of the resort fees. Try negotiating with the manager beforehand for a waiver though it is not always possible.

Spend Big at the Casino or Join the Premium Tier

High-tier casino members are given special treatment, which includes non-payment of the resort fee. Some hotels will not offer this perk to all members, and you may have to talk to the host to gauge if the resort fee can be nullified. There are also special cards, such as founders cards, that will instantly level up your tier at a hotel and waive the dreaded resort fee, but the card is a bit costly.
