The Las Vegas Raiders' 2023-2024 season is finally in the books, and it was one of the worst on record. It was so bad that the team fired their head coach, benched their star quarterback, and promised wholesale changes for the fans. Here's the good, the bad, and the ugly of it all
The Good: Mark Davis gets the message

The only good thing to happen to the Las Vegas Raiders this year is that Mark Davis finally got the message that something wasn’t right. Former head coach Josh McDaniels promised Davis the patriot way would work for the Raiders and that he knew what made teams successful.
Davis eventually saw past this lie and fired Josh McDaniels halfway through the 2023 season. He also sent General Manager Dave Ziegler packing and benched Jimmy Garoppolo.
Las Vegas can essentially wipe the slate clean and start all over in 2024. A new quarterback, a brand new coach, and even some new weapons. They might even be able to improve the defense and make them a more functioning unit.
The Bad: Wasting resources on Jimmy Garoppolo and Josh McDaniels

There’s nothing worse than wasting time, and that's exactly what the Las Vegas Raiders did this season. The team took a chance on Jimmy Garoppolo and gave him a $72.5 million deal, only to see him struggle to move the offense. He also suffered various injuries early in the season, making him unreliable at best.
He passed for 1205 yards, seven touchdowns, and nine interceptions in seven starts., with a 65.1 completion percentage. The fact that they wasted $70 million on Garoppolo only a year after spending $121.5 million on Derek Carr just shows how bad the Raiders are with money.
The lesson of 2023 is clear. There needs to be better decision-making and more suitable staffing changes. They can’t afford to keep wasting time like this.

Let’s get back to the fact that the Las Vegas Raiders barely improved in 2023. The offense is still one of the worst in the league and struggles to reach the endzone. They still don’t have a long-term quarterback after what happened with Jimmy Garoppolo, and the defense is a nonfactor in most games.
There were flashes of brilliance. For example, when the Raiders beat the Broncos on opening weekend, but they are far and few between. Nothing the Raiders did was consistent this season, which hurt them the most. Either a key player was injured, someone got benched, or the coaching staff had no idea what they were doing.
This all led to the lack of progress this season, and it’s disappointing.

A lot is going to change for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024. The team will have to build chemistry again if they ditch Antonio Pierce as head coach, which is a concern. The Raiders also need a reliable quarterback without turnover issues, injury problems, or lackluster playing ability.
And then there’s the defense that needs a major overhaul in 2024. That side of the ball needs to stop getting pushed down the field so often. They need better conditioning, better execution. Just something that shows that side of the team is alive.
