“What a lovely surprise to discover how unlonely being alone can be.”
-Ellen Burstyn
Las Vegas is marketed as the ultimate group vacation spot. If you’re not in a group, according to marketers, you’re part of a traveling couple or family. Ads depict either some sort of fairy tale-level wedding where the bride looks like the topping of a gourmet cupcake or the debauchery that happens in Vegas right before that happy couple gets hitched. Think wild bachelor and bachelorette parties.
Rarely are solo Vegas vacations highlighted.
However, there are excellent ways to have a great time in Las Vegas, even without your crew, spouse, boys, girls, hell – even your cat [not mine tho; where I go, Max goes, end of story].
Here are my favorite things to do alone in Las Vegas.
1. See the Neon Museum
What is it that you think of when you picture Las Vegas? Besides being so drunk and uncomfortable that you have to take your heels off and walk the Strip barefoot. I’m talking about lights, people. Specifically, the lights littered across almost every square inch of the Strip. What happens to neon signs when the casino is demolished or imploded? Or those signs for properties that are still standing but have been renovated, renewed, and rebranded? They go to the neon sign graveyard. Aka, The Neon Museum.
2. Watch a Game at a Sportsbook at Circa
So, I’m not even going to try to act like I know enough about sports to get in-depth about why this will be an absolutely exhilarating experience if you’re an avid sports fan. But equipped with the kind of features that Circa’s sports book has [three stories of high-definition screens, high-end stadium seating, and daily stats and sports data analysis], it can turn watching the game into the highlight of your Sunday.
3. Explore the Arts District
The Arts District here in Las Vegas has established itself as THE place to go if you’re a fan of art, as it is home to many galleries, vintage shops, antique vendors, local breweries, and even theaters. Additionally, on the first Friday of every month, the Arts District hosts the monthly event called First Friday, which features local artists, live music, and food trucks. And it’s free! There is much to enjoy, view, scope out, and partake in.
4. Enjoy a Solo Spa Day
The spa treatments you can get while in Las Vegas require absolutely nobody but yourself and the staff. While a spa day with a bestie can be fun, spoiling yourself by checking out one of Las Vegas’s award-winning spas is your ticket to truly check out and leave everything unrelated to pampering yourself on your solo vacation at the door.
5. Ride the High Roller at The Linq
Didn’t get a good view of the Las Vegas Strip/skyline while your plane was coming in on final approach and want the next best option for capturing a one-of-a-kind vantage point? Then look no further. The High Roller at the Linq features a view 550 feet in the air in the center of the Strip. With stunning and panoramic 360-degree views, the whole experience of riding the wheel lasts 30 minutes, which completes one full revolution. As if this weren’t already fun enough, ask about the “Happy Half-Hour on the High Roller.” Yes, it’s exactly what you think it is, only 550 feet up in the air. You’re welcome.
6. Walk the Full Length Up Las Vegas Blvd/The Strip [South in Particular]
I know what you’re thinking: is this guy seriously recommending that I should just aimlessly walk the length of the Las Vegas Strip alone?
Yes, dear reader. I am indeed recommending this, but only because you will not be walking aimlessly. Walking the Las Vegas Strip is an absolute treat for almost every sense. Incredible lights, clouds of weed, random porn distributors slapping flyers, beautiful people, strange people- all of this is on display. If you want to get buzzed on your walk, feel free to drink openly on the street. It’s legal!
Now get out there and have yourself a one-person [or woman] solo Vegas adventure.
