10 Out-of-This-World Experiences in Vegas

Aside from the glitz and glamour of the Strip, Las Vegas has a wealth of unusual and obscure things to do that appeal to all kinds of visitors.

So, if you’d rather spend your time learning about the creation of atomic bombs, driving over a car with a tank, or seeing slices of preserved human bodies (yes, slices!) than gambling in a fancy casino or sipping on cocktails at an upscale bar, take a look at this list for the top out-of-this-world experiences in Las Vegas.

1. Area 51 Alien Center

AREA 51 ALIEN center

If you’re headed to Vegas on a road trip, one of the most unmissable spots for those looking for something truly ‘otherworldly’ is the Area 51 Alien Center. Located along Highway 95 in Amargosa, just a short, 1-hour drive from the center of Las Vegas, this extraterrestrial-themed souvenir shop/truck stop/roadside diner is a unique hybrid that boasts all things alien.

From Area 51 security t-shirts to socks, stickers, magnets, and more, there’s a whole collection of alien-themed trinkets to buy here. There’s also a great on-site restaurant serving up delicious meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, making it a great spot to visit any time of day. That said, we recommend visiting for dinner, as thanks to its remote location, it’s a great spot to be if you’re hoping to see a flying saucer or two shooting across the night sky!

2. The Erotic Heritage Museum

Erotic Heritage Museum Las Vegas

Definitely one to skip if you’re visiting Las Vegas on a family vacation, The Erotic Heritage Museum is a fun spot for groups of friends and couples alike. Home to a selection of truly unique exhibits, such as the largest erotic bicycle in the world, a pair of Eva Braun’s underwear (yes, Adolf Hitler’s girlfriend, Eva Braun), and pornographic movie parodies, there’s just about everything you can think of in here when it comes to sex and eroticism.

Open since 2008, this museum is one of Vegas’ weirdest wonders and does a perfect job of covering sex through history and across multiple genres (including medical and the media).

3. The Atomic Museum

Atomic Museum

The Atomic Museum is an intriguing museum for those curious about science and engineering, or even just for those looking for something unusual to do in Vegas.

Teaching visitors how the atomic bomb was initially created and tested (both underground and in the open air), this museum showcases a variety of artifacts and equipment to guide visitors through the creation of one of history’s deadliest weapons. Guests can also see a range of other lesser-known weapons and view a large exhibit on how the atomic bomb has exploded in pop culture and the media since its creation.

4. Blackout Dining in the Dark

Blackout “Dining in the Dark”

If you want a Vegas-style dining experience, then look no further than Blackout Dining – which does exactly as the name suggests.

Sitting at a table in complete darkness, this restaurant takes the phrase “eat with your eyes” and throws it out the window. Instead, the lack of vision allows your other senses to be heightened so you can truly enjoy the meal’s flavors with little to no distraction from bright lights, eclectic decor, or even the presentation of the food itself!

5. The Mob Museum

The Mob Museum

History fans and those looking to learn more about Las Vegas’ dark past will love what’s on display at the Mob Museum. One of Las Vegas’ most popular museums, it surpasses expectations for many who choose to visit.

Housed in a local courthouse, this museum uncovers the history of the mob, how they brought in casinos to begin building the original ‘Sin City’, and their run-ins with law enforcement. Guests can enjoy hands-on experiences at this museum, including a de-escalation and gun-training exercise, and a distillery tour.

Tickets to this museum grant you access to the on-site speakeasy, where you can enjoy a delicious cocktail (or flight of whisky) once the sun has set!

6. Battlefield Vegas

Battlefield Vegas

Vegas is known for fast, cars, gambling, good drinks, and fun. Many people like to come here for a crazy few days, and one great way to spend that is at Battlefield Vegas. Despite being one of the most popular gun ranges in the city, Battlefield Vegas made its way onto this list for its few truly out-of-this-world experiences.

Ever wanted to crush a car with a tank? Well, now you can! Want to re-create a historic battle? You can do that too! See a great selection of decommissioned military vehicles (including a Huey helicopter!), look no further than the amazing Battlefield Vegas!

7. Bodies… The Exhibition

Located in the Luxor resort right on Las Vegas Boulevard, ‘Bodies’ is an exhibition incredibly true to its name. Visitors can view dead bodies, preserved and presented in a variety of different postures, including in slices, allowing you to see cross-sections of every part of the body. You can also see close-ups of various internal organs and body parts (including smokers’ lungs and tumors), to give visitors a good idea of what damage we can really be doing to our insides if we don’t take good care of our own bodies.

While on the surface, this exhibition may seem like a weird attraction for those with a morbid curiosity about body parts, it’s actually an informative and educational museum that helps capture the importance of health and learning how our bodies work in a way that truly resonates.

8. Slotzilla Zipline

Despite being one of Las Vegas’s major tourist attractions, the Slotzilla Zipline truly is a weird and wonderful experience. When you think of going ziplining, it’s typically a tranquil yet exhilarating ride through a jungle, down a mountain, or even across a river. This zipline is very different, sending riders flying above the ever-bustling Freemont Street experience!

There are two different heights to choose from (with the higher wire providing a longer ride), and this makes a fabulous, weird, and wild experience without having to go out of your way or set aside too much time to enjoy it!

9. Omega Mart at Area15

Area15

Omega Mart is a world-famous interactive art exhibit that takes visitors on an incredible mind-bending journey. The second of its kind in the world, Omega Mart tells a story through visitor interactivity and exploration – Step inside and begin your roleplaying as an employee of ‘Omega Mart.’ With steep slides, creative storylines, and a completely immersive experience, you’ll discover a universe like nowhere you’ve ever been before!

There are plenty of opportunities to buy merchandise – We personally recommend the prickly pear cactus drink!

10. Dig This!

Dig This – Las Vegas

Another weird yet totally fun experience is Dig This, a construction-based theme park conceived for anyone looking to have fun operating an excavator. Visitors can use these huge machines like toys in an oversized sandpit!

Choose from a Caterpillar D5 track-type bulldozer or Caterpillar 315CL hydraulic excavator, and after a 30-minute training and orientation session, you can spend time digging deep trenches or building giant mounds of earth! Why not participate in a skills test once you’ve got the hang of things? There’s plenty available – From moving 2,000-pound tires to gently picking up little basketballs from the tops of safety cones without knocking them, the choice is yours!
