Summer Show Shuffle: SELENA, ELTON, STREISAND, and LONDON

Three new shows and one returning in a summer overstuffed with chaos and closures…

No news is good news…unless you have something great to share. The announcement of three original productions in today’s economy is not only welcome, but brave. Our parent company ADMIT.VIP is behind the trio of tribute shows, and that makes this writer quite excited.

If you follow the official Vegas 411 Facebook page, you already know that several restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and shows have shuttered in recent weeks. Blame the economy, politics, tariffs, soaring airline prices…whatever. A few of your favorites may be among them. But onto the good stuff.

This weekend, QUEEN SELENA will debut at Alexis Park Resort. The musical salute to Latina legend Selena bows on Friday, June 20th at 9 pm in the Pegasus Showroom.

Starring powerhouse vocalist Mayra Alejandra, performing in both English and Spanish, under the musical direction of Roberto Vazquez, Queen Selena features a live band and offers an up-close, emotionally rich concert experience honoring the voice, style, and soul of Selena – from “Como La Flor” and “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” to “Amor Prohibido” and “Dreaming of You.”

“This show was created to connect with the audience – not from a distance, but in the heart,” says Executive Producer Pete Housley. “Selena’s music is deeply personal to so many people. In the Pegasus Showroom, we’re able to present that music in a way that feels direct, emotional, and unforgettable. Mayra simply embodies the spirit of Selena; she’s unforgettable.”

QUEEN SELENA opens Friday, June 20th. The show will perform Thursday through Sunday at 9 pm. Tickets start at $44.95 and can be ordered here. Alexis Park Resort is located at 375 E. Harmon Avenue. Parking is free.

Just two days later, accomplished musician and tribute artist Jeff Burkett takes over the Ahern Live stage for SIR ELTON – At The Piano. An intimate portrait of legendary piano man Elton John, Burkett’s vocals and keyboards will deliver some of the greatest hits of all time.

Sir Elton is the only all-Elton John tribute show running in Las Vegas. The 70-minute live studio session-style production features Burkett performing live at the piano, backed by a drummer and a featured female vocalist. The show includes a wide selection of Elton John’s most beloved hits, including “Your Song,” “Rocket Man,” “Bennie and the Jets,” “Tiny Dancer,” and more.

“We want the audience to feel like they’re in the room where the music was born,” said Jeff Burkett, star of Sir Elton. “This show is about honoring the genius of Elton John with live musicianship and heartfelt delivery – not imitation.”

“This show has been thoughtfully created to offer something different from the typical Las Vegas tribute,” said Pete Housley, Executive Producer and CEO of Admit VIP. “We’re not trying to be flashy or over-the-top – we’re bringing audiences closer to the music, the lyrics, and the emotional power of Elton John’s songs, all with a backroom session feeling.”

SIR ELTON will play Sunday through Tuesday at 9 pm beginning Sunday, June 22nd. Tickets start at $44.95 and can be ordered here. Ahern Boutique Hotel is located at 300 W. Sahara Avenue. Parking is free.

Next month, MEMORIES: A Tribute To Barbra Streisand joins QUEEN SELENA at Alexis Park Resort. Featured star Sharon Owens has more than twenty-five years of experience performing Barbra’s hits. It’s been a very long time since Las Vegas has had a full-fledged Streisand production, and this one promises to be outstanding.

This dazzling residency pays homage to over five decades of Streisand’s legendary career, featuring iconic hits like People, Evergreen, Don’t Rain On My Parade, The Way We Were, and many more. The Las Vegas Leisure Guide has said, “If one closes the eyes and just listens, you would swear the actual person is on stage.”

Ms. Owens began her Streisand journey with the multi-million-dollar production Legends in Concert, and rose to headline her own long-running Vegas hit, Barbra and Frank: The Concert That Never Was. Her appearances on Access Hollywood, Extra, People magazine, and TV Guide solidified her as a leading name in the world of celebrity tribute.

MEMORIES: A Tribute to Barbra Streisand opens July 15th at Alexis Park Resort. Showtime is Tuesday through Thursday at 5 pm in the Pegasus Showroom. Tickets start at $29.95 and can be purchased via this link.

On a bit of a tangent, the long-running ADAM LONDON’s LAUGHTERNOON has found a new home at Ahern Boutique Hotel. The popular family show was shuttered, along with The CONJURORS, Late Night Magic, and several others, when Orleans Casino pulled the plug on Damian Costa’s “The Venue.”

LAUGHTERNOON returns beginning June 26th. Showtimes are Thursday through Monday at 4 pm. Tickets start at $24.95 and can be purchased here.
