Michael Sinatra creates timeless, beautiful moments…
The Frank Sinatra tribute, SINATRA LIVE!, is a labor of love. Initially fronted by impersonator Gary Anthony, the show has expanded its concept and scope. SINATRA LIVE! is now as much a showcase for Sinatra’s music, style, and era as it is about the man himself.
Formerly titled FRANKLY FRANK, the production was rebranded last month to highlight its star. Michael Sinatra is not a stage name, but the real deal. The unconventionally handsome singer shares a genuine familial connection to the legendary crooner.
A California native, Michael is an experienced jazz singer. In his opening banter, he’s known to say, “Yes, my name is REALLY Sinatra. It’s been both a blessing and a curse.” He tells audiences that his connection to Frank goes back to his grandparents. You might even detect a resemblance between the two. And Michael has the swagger and style to make his famous relative proud.
Now in its third year, SINATRA LIVE! has made a tradition of holiday-themed performances. They’re undoubtedly special for Michael, whose love for Christmas music runs deep: “Growing up, Christmas was always a special time for me and my family, where we would enjoy the traditional festivities.”
Michael enjoys strolling through the audience and bringing guests into the show. “Since this is an unscripted non-impersonator show, I focus on the songs made famous by Frank Sinatra in a fun, unique style. I do a lot of improvisation and interact with the audience through crowd work, engaging with the audience to create a more personal and memorable experience.”
Sinatra’s easy-breezy style is punctuated with plenty of humor. He relishes the music of the Rat Pack era, along with the fashions and sensibilities it embraced. In addition to holiday albums, Sinatra has released two collections of “standards”, and his baritone voice is a perfect fit for the Great American Songbook.
Michael says, “I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to collaborate with so many incredible musicians from all around the world, including Brazil, Canada, Grenada, Italy, Spain, Taiwan, the United States, Venezuela, and more.” You can learn more about his recording history and albums by visiting Michael’s official website.
An accomplished drummer, Sinatra has performed with several groups and orchestras, including the St. Louis Big Band. He has also appeared as an actor in stage productions. He said that he’s often confused with the son of Frank Sinatra Jr., who shares the same name. The fact that they’ve both dabbled in acting doesn’t make the differentiation any easier.
“I am truly grateful and privileged to have the opportunity to pursue my passion of singing and performing on a full-time basis,” says Michael. “I am deeply committed to preserving and sharing timeless tunes with generations to come.” In order to make that happen, he shares the stage with a few very gifted artists.
Elyse Clardy (FLASHBACK, ALL MOTOWN, MOTOWN BRUNCH) is Michael’s primary female vocalist. Occasionally, he’s joined by Annie C. Lyon (SIR ELTON) and Gwendolyn Forsythe. Pianist Carnell Upchurch adds humor as Michael’s comic foil.
Packed with great songs and wonderful moments, SINATRA LIVE! is worth seeing more than once. It’s a terrific way to revisit the glory of Sin City’s greatest era.
