A weekend dedicated to the infamous crime duo highlights a new regime and ongoing improvements at the once-popular Primm Valley destination…
As recent activities at Palms Casino Resort have shown us, a struggling Vegas destination can return to relevance with the proper guidance. A huge failure while owned by Station Casinos, the off-Strip property is thriving once more under its current regime (San Manuel Indians). Across the street, Rio Hotel Casino is hoping to achieve the same success while being transformed by Dreamscape Hotels.
Thirty minutes to the south of Sin City, Primm Valley Resorts has fallen on hard times. Once a favorite of interstate travelers and bargain shoppers, the trio of hotel-casinos boasted numerous restaurants, a comedy club, thrill rides, and other attractions. A monorail-style tram connected Whiskey Pete’s, Primm Valley Resort, and Buffalo Bill’s. The centerpiece was DESPERADO, an enormous “hypercoaster” that officially closed in early 2020, although it was out of commission before that.
While persistent rumors promise the return of DESPERADO, one attraction that will most likely face the wrecking ball is Primm Fashion Outlet, rebranded as Primm Mall. I published this distressing piece about the outlet mall more than five years ago. The official store directory currently lists no tenants at all.
Now, on to the positives. As with many destinations post-COVID, change is in the air at Primm Valley Resorts. New blood has been installed behind the scenes. Renovations and improvements are underway throughout the three casinos and hotels. Many room renovations have already been completed. Check out what they have to offer via this link.
One of the new executives, who reached out to VEGAS 411, stated “There is a new GM that started in December. He is amazing and the shift of things has started to bloom.” They continued, “It’s a 30-minute drive, and it’s nice not to be stuck in traffic. No parking fees, a good steakhouse, a great concert, and it’s affordable. A great escape, and every Friday & Saturday it’s sold out.”
“If you’re looking for a getaway on a budget or an all-out luxury weekend, you’ll find just what you’re looking for at Primm Valley Casino Resorts. Between all three hotels, you’ll find fantastic dining, top-notch entertainment, outstanding service, and world-class gaming that never stops…” Primm Valley Resorts
The exec, who was instrumental in revitalizing another historic property, said “It’s so like when I first landed at ______. I was given the keys to a fixer-upper, and it took some time to be “Legendary”. I’ll identify the individual in an upcoming piece.
The team at Primm Valley would like to improve things a little further before having VEGAS 411 as a guest. In the meantime, they’re focusing on generating renewed interest in their golf courses, refurbished hotel accommodations, special events, and concerts at Star of the Desert Arena. One of the most popular attractions at Primm Valley Resorts is the Bonnie and Clyde “Death Car”. Acquired by the resorts in 1988, the somewhat morbid attraction is displayed behind glass. Also seen is a shirt worn by Clyde Barrow when he and his accomplice/lover Bonnie Parker were killed on May 23rd, 1934. Ambushed by lawmen, the serial murderers were shot to death in a hail of bullets, with 112 holes penetrating the car.
