Gifted artists including ONE LIFE TO LIFE’s Kristen Alderson (“Starr Manning”) will turn over their off-Broadway roles to Las Vegas performers…
“Should auld acquaintance be forgot” is a line we’ve heard a lot this week. It literally translates to “old times, especially times fondly remembered”. And so it is that we start out 2023 with the final week for two wonderfully talented casts. But don’t worry…the shows will go on.
NEWSical The Musical and A MUSICAL ABOUT STAR WARS opened at Planet Hollywood this holiday season with a bang (original reviews here). But after this week, the original New York leads (pictured above) will return to the east coast. Producer/director Tom D’Angora told me that this was always a part of his plan.
“All are going back to NYC and there will be a fully local cast. I am thrilled to work with and support the incredible local theater community in Vegas. The talent here is amazing.”
D’Angora’s casting made national headlines when prepping the 2021 Vegas run of NAKED BOYS SINGING. Frustrated by troubled star Aaron Carter‘s disruptive antics, he famously fired the now-deceased former child actor/singer. Carter retaliated by way of a viral video in which he brandished a gun and his tooth fell out. American Id0l finalist David Hernandez stepped in with spectacular vocal skills and a chiseled physique. The adults-only revue, slated to play for a few weeks, ran for fourteen months.
The successful Vegas debut of A MUSICAL ABOUT STAR WARS, combined with the return of NEWSical, will put D’Angora’s casting skills to the test once more. He assures me that it will be an amazing transition, and I have no reason to doubt the Emmy nominee. NEWSical is my VEGAS 411 choice for “Best New Resident Production“.
Elon Musk, Jennifer Coolidge, and Britney Spears all receive the NEWSical treatment…
I’ll keep you informed when the Vegas-based cast is officially announced. In the meantime, head to Planet Hollywood’s V Theater now through January 8th and brace your funnybone for the remaining NYC-cast performances of both shows. Comedic treasures Carly Sakolove, Greg Sullivan, Taylor Crousore, Dylan Hartwell, and iconic ONE LIFE TO LIVE ACTRESS Kristen Alderson (“Starr Manning”) are not to be missed.
