‘MI CASA, SU CASA’ – Silverton’s Unique Asian/Latin Dining Experience

A delicious culture collision occurs when a sushi bar takes up residence inside a Mexican grill.

You’ve heard of “Asian Fusion” and “Tex-Mex”, two popular culinary hybrids. But have you ever known of a Mexican restaurant and a sushi bar to join forces? Believe it or not, the partnership works…and the eatery in question has been an enormous success.

This head-scratching Mexican/sushi concept became a reality in November 2018, when Silverton Casino added Su Casa Sushi to its already popular Mi Casa Grill Cantina. Just off the casino floor, Mi Casa boasts unique culinary accomplishments powerful enough to lure discerning diners from celebrity-driven hotspots on the Strip.

Mi Casa Grill Cantina is well into its second decade of operations. Bolstered by “Day of the Dead” decor and award-winning lighting (designed by Las Vegas firm KROHTECH) Mi Casa‘s eye-catching style pleases visitors and locals alike. But the most appealing visuals come courtesy of a menu that proclaims “Bold and Authentic”.

Mi Casa Grill Cantina‘s extensive menu features a variety of Mexican favorites. Traditional guacamole is prepared tableside, as are variations with mango, lobster/mango, and spicy chorizo. There are three different types of ceviche to choose from, as well as oyster shots, oysters on the half shell, and Ostion Preparado, a shrimp ceviche topped with three oysters.

Peruse the main menu and you’ll see several starters like quesadillas, taquitos, avocado fries, and sopes. Main dishes include burritos of every variety, tacos filled with fish, carnitas, carne asada, beef, or shredded chicken, and three types of enchiladas.

There are seven types of fajitas, and all come with rice, beans, pico, guacamole, and sour cream. You can add sizzle by requesting your fajitas to be served with chipotle-cilantro butter. Calorie-conscious guests may want to opt for one of three different salads and a bowl of chicken tortilla soup topped with sour cream.

If you’re in a “sampling” type of mood, Combination Plates of two or three main items allow you to taste a variety of tacos, enchiladas, tamales, and more. The Mi Casa chefs have also created a bounty of House Specialties. Selections include Filet of Salmon, uniquely prepared steaks, Sizzling Carnitas, and Cordero Al Carbon (grilled lamb chops with chimichurri).

Molcajete for Two is a shared meal that you design. Named after the traditional volcanic stone mortar and pestle, this feast is built around a colorful blend of avocado, roasted tomatoes, charred green onions, ranchero sauce, and tortillas. Choose from Ranchero (chicken and steak), Tres Reyes (chicken, steak, and grilled shrimp), or Del Mar (shrimp, whitefish, and lobster tail).

Mi Casa Grill Cantina lives up to the “cantina” part of its name with a gloriously-appointed bar. Its selection of tequila, cerveza, and margaritas is equally impressive. Blanco (white) and Rojo (red) sangrias are available by glass or pitcher. Five Signature Cocktails include Smoked Mexican Old Fashioned and a wonderful Cucumber Mojito blended with muddled mint and fresh lime juice.

In part two I’ll be joined by Executive Room Chef Shayne Galan and Silverton’s Executive Chef Nick Beesley for OMAKASE EXPERIENCE, the centerpiece of an array of new signature dishes at SU CASA SUSHI BAR.

MI CASA GRILL CANTINA is open Monday through Friday from 4 pm until 9 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 11 am until 9 pm. View the dinner/cocktail menu by clicking here. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday through 3 pm. View the brunch menu by visiting here
