YouTube sitcom looks at the wild, wacky world of a no-class Sin City talent agency.
Note to self: when an actor/producer sends you a clip from his new comedy series, don’t take a sip of coffee before pressing “play”. Now that I’ve wiped the laugh-blast off my keyboard, I can share what I know about A-LIST CASTING:
“This uproarious comedy series follows the misadventures of small-time casting directors as they juggle eccentric actors, demanding clients, and their own delusions of grandeur. Will they finally land that big break, or are they destined to remain in the shadows of the Las Vegas Strip? Tune in to find out!”
Anyone with a camera phone and outgoing friends can assemble a (hopefully) funny video series. But in an era of quantity vs. quality, it’s wonderful to discover an independent production that has actual wit behind the antics.
Despite its contemporary setting, the Vegas-set A-LIST CASTING is a throwback to great workplace sit-coms of the 1970s. Think ALICE, BARNEY MILLER, WKRP in CINCINATTI, and TAXI. Wacky characters, crazy situations, and biting social commentary wrapped in one.
A-LIST CASTING is written, produced, directed, and acted by people with roots in Los Angeles and Sin City. The overlapping DNA supercharges this premise, wherein Hollywood castoffs try their luck in the Land of Neon. The commentary couldn’t be more timely, with Vegas bracing for two new movie studios and thousands of additional California transplants.
Artie Anderson, Hannah McBride, and Chuck Prater form the core trio of A-LIST CASTING. They’re joined by Michael Forsch, whose absurdly handsome face is splashed across billboards and casino advertisements city-wide. You can also expect cameos by familiar Vegas entertainers like Jimmy Slonina (MYSTERE).
Chuck Prater and Michael Forsch double as producers, with Forsch handling casting. Zak Fin and Nick Adams are the primary writers, and Fin shares directing with Michael Forsch (full cast and crew here). It was Michael who made me aware of the series earlier this spring:
“We are produced entirely in Las Vegas, with a majority of the cast and crew based here as well. Currently, the first season is available on YouTube (here). We are trying to garner support from our amazing city so we can continue to make fun and funny content…showing off how much talent exists here in Nevada!”
Forsch added that Season Two began casting in January and should be out by the fall. “Wait till you see it!”
