Why the Las Vegas Aces Are Favorites To Win the WNBA Championship

The Las Vegas Aces are looking a lot like a super team heading into the 2021 season.

Why should the Las Vegas Aces be considered the favorites to win the 2021 WNBA? Their future seems quite bright once you consider all the factors at play.

Let’s start with the most significant factor- Liz Cambage is returning to anchor this defense. Keep in mind that Camabge is one of the best centers in the league, and her absence was sorely missed. Of course, the Aces were able to make up for it with record performances by Dearica Hamby, A’Ja Wilson, and Kayla McBride, but it wasn’t enough to save them. Not having a threat like Camabge definitely hurt the Aces in their series with Seattle, which ultimately led to them getting swept. Let’s see if that happens again though!

The big names don’t stop there. Chelsea Gray has also signed a contract with the Las Vegas Aces. Not only does she bring in great stats that will boost an already blistering bench, but she also brings in the kind of championship experience that the team needs. Think about it! There were countless times throughout the 2020 season where a sports pundit would talk about what the Aces would need to do to improve, which is why they wasted no time netted gems like Chelsey Gray and Riquna Williams.

Speaking of Riquana Williams, she is another great scorer to have in tough situations and is also a part of the Los Angeles Sparks’ former Championship team. She even increased her field goal percentage to .438% in 2020, which will give other starters time to rest while she lights up the scoreboard. Whether she makes a difference on defense or not remains to be seen, but hopefully, she will end up being an asset on both sides of the ball. She has become a killer three-point threat though.

Add these power women to the roster of A’JA Wilson, Angel McCoughtry, Kayla McBride, Sue Bird, and Sugar Rodgers, and you have all the makings of a super team.
