After a long hiatus, UFC is back in Las Vegas. For the past month, UFC has been holding its fights on Ras island, off the coast of Abu Dhabi. Now Dana White and the Las Vegas authorities have agreed to put MMA back in business in the USA. On August 8, the UFC fight card will feature Derrick Lewis vs Alexey Oleinik. The fight will take place at its APEX facility in Las Vegas. All the fights will be shown live on ESPN.
Lewis (23-7, 1 NC) has won his past two fights and most recently defeated Ilir Latifi in February. Oleinik (59-13-1) also has won two fights in a row and most recently defeated Fabricio Werdum.
The other fight of interest is Chris Weidman vs. Omari Akhmedov. Weidman returns to middleweight after recently moving up from light heavyweight. Weidman has lost 5 of his past 6 fights and if he loses, his UFC career will likely come to an end
Besides the main card, other preliminary fights will include:
265 lbs: Ciryl Gane vs. Sergei Pavlovich
185 lbs: Chris Weidman vs. Omari Akhmedov
125 lbs: Julia Avila vs. Nicco Montano
115 lbs: Miranda Granger vs. Nadia Kassem
185 lbs: Andrew Sanchez vs. Wellington Turman
Because the COVID-19 pandemic is still going strong in the nation, these fights may be changed as fight time approaches. Anyone testing positive for COVID-19 will not be allowed to fight. All fighters will be tested and remain in dedicated facilities to avoid mixing with the general population.
