“Life is like a piano. What you get out of it depends on how you play it.”
The 1986 film HIGHLANDER depicted a world in which immortal beings lived among us, going about their routines like everyday people. Las Vegas has its own secret society….gifted “celestials” who appear as mere mortals. But when the moon rises, so does their urge to be onstage. That’s when these future superstars head to STAR LOUNGE Cocktail Piano Bar to reveal their talents to the world.
Star Lounge is located in a rather unassuming plaza at 3449 Sammy Davis Jr. Drive, just a coin toss from Wynn/Encore and Fashion Show Mall. Stroll down the lush entry corridor, through a pair of red curtains, and into a world where cantors and songbirds from Sin City’s Golden Era would feel right at home.
Dark, mysterious, and bathed in a rouge glow, Star Lounge beckons you deeper inside, where you might hear echoes of voices from the past. Underneath a pair of massive framed mirrors, a velvet banquette lines black-brick walls, curving underneath antique-look chandeliers. Intimate table lighting draws your gaze towards a small stage topped by a red baby grand piano, the source of music that fills this magical space.
Musical Director Chris Lash
Eduardo Cordova is the man behind Star Lounge, putting a unique stamp here as he did with Liaison, Drai’s, and current sensation The Garden in the Arts District. Here he collaborates with musical director and renowned pianist Chris Lash (BAZ, Jersey Boys, For The Record: Tarantino and Million Dollar Quartet). Together, the pair has infused Star Lounge with style, atmosphere, outstanding service, and an amazing line-up of regular and guest entertainers.
Eduardo Cordova and Macy Gray
Although it’s only been open just a few months, Star Lounge has already attracted the attention of major players like Macy Gray. According to TMZ, earlier this month Gray “rented out the Star Piano Cocktail Lounge, with a few requests…five Chippendales dancers and enough musical equipment set up for a gig. Macy and her crew rolled up to the piano bar at 10:30 PM and stayed until about 1 AM … singing some Fugees and even some of her own hits.”

While a celebrity of Gray’s caliber might be an occasional occurrence, the regular lineup at Star is stellar on a different plane. American Idol’s David Hernandez (NAKED BOYS SINGING), Sarah Hester Ross, Travis Cloer (JERSEY BOYS), and Broadway stars Ruby Lewis (Cirque du Soleil’s PARAMOUR) and Josh Strickland (Disney’s TARZAN) have dazzled guests. Just as spectacular are local favorites like sexy country singer Chase Brown, Ashley Fuller, and chanteuse Hannah Brady.
The Lounge recently hosted an event for influential women like Savannah Smith, Jennifer Romas, Dayna Roselli, and Melinda Sheckells, featured the comedy stylings of Konan the Komedian, and turned up the volume for The Moonshiners. Of course, a piano lounge is only as great as its pianists, and STAR has a rotating roster that includes Adam Saxe, Matt Fetbrandt, Phyllis Tilley, David James, Michael Spadoni, and Jackie Wiatrowski.
The Moonshiners TOXIC – Star Lounge
One of those secretive talents we told you about earlier is bartender Paul Bradley. Not only can this charming gentleman whip you up a refined craft cocktail like STARSTRUCK ($16), PEAR MAGIC ($14) or the GLITZ SPRITZ ($12), he’s also been known to take the stage and belt out a few powerful tunes of his own.
The signature cocktail menu is supported by an extensive selection from their attractive bar: “Our menu features specialty cocktails, wines, and bubbly categories. Whether you re in the mood for a fresh seasonal fix, a variety of whiskey or champagne drinks, or some of the best wine on the Strip, Star Cocktail Lounge provides that and more.”

Upcoming events at the Lounge include STAR BURLESQUE on Saturday, November 27th, and their first New Year’s Eve Gala, which begins at 8 pm. Due to space limitations, reservations are highly recommended and can be made by clicking on highlighted event links. The venue can be rented out for holidays, birthdays, and other private events accommodating from thirty to over one hundred guests (click here for more info).
So when you’re in the mood to enjoy music amongst the stars, head to STAR LOUNGE, open Wednesday through Sunday from 5 pm until 2 am. Daily Happy Hour features $5 cocktails and half-price bottles from 5 pm to 7 pm. The lounge is located at 3449 S. Sammy Davis Jr. Drive. Phone 702-476-5328.
