The 2021 Olympics are half over, but Las Vegas already has quite a few medal winners to be proud of!
Let’s start with the United States women’s 3×3 basketball team, who won gold after defeating Russia 18-15 in the Finals. They also held a 9-1 record during the Olympic games, only dropping one game to Japan. The team included Las Vegas Aces teammates Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young, who put up great numbers throughout the entire tournament. Allisha Grey and Stefanie Dolson were also on the team.
Now, let’s dive into the water, where Katie Grimes, Erica Sullivan, and Bella Simms all managed to come away with some hardware of their own. The trend started with Sullivan, who came home second in the Women’s 1500 meter freestyle event and nabbed silver. The USA Olympic relay team also brought home silver in their 4×200 event, which allowed Katie Grimes and Bella Simms to medal. The women actually set a new record in the pool, with some of the fastest laps ever seen on the Olympic stage.
Finally, let’s talk about the women’s Olympic basketball team, which features Las Vegas Aces players Chelsea Gray and A’ja Wilson. The team ended up defeating Nigeria 81-72 despite getting off to a bad start. The win was made even more significant because it marked the Women’s Olympic basketball team’s 50th victory in a row. This team hasn’t lost a game since 2004.
In the end, there is still a lot of games to play, but Las Vegas has already shown it can compete the best.
