Those are the words that come to mind when you watch BurlesQ, a hugely popular all-female revue that premiered in Las Vegas last December. The show takes you back to the Roaring 20s with sultry performances by brazen, flirty showgirls.
This week, we sat down with BurlesQ performer Ciara Mystress to find out exactly what it takes to become a dancer in Las Vegas sultriest burlesque show.
Tell us about BurlesQ. Who should watch the show? Men? Women? Couples?
BurlesQ is for everyone! Couples have been loving seeing the show together. We ve had a lot of bachelorette and birthday parties, too, that have been so much fun.
Can you describe your role in the show?
I am primarily a singer in BurlesQ, but I dance in our showgirl number as well. I started out with the show filling in for a few performances. The singer who was originally in the show got a great new job that she d been working toward, so I had the awesome opportunity to step into her spot full time. It s been wonderful to be back in feathers and jewels again.
Is BurlesQ the sexiest show in Vegas?
Absolutely!!
What s been the most memorable BurlesQ performance so far? What made it special?
For me, the most memorable BurlesQ performance was on New Year’s Eve. Having come to terms with probably not performing at all in 2020 because of the pandemic, it was really special to get to be in front of an audience again on the last night of the year. It s awesome that we ve been able to bring entertainment back.
Let s talk about your background. Where are you from? When did you move to Las Vegas?
I m originally from Missouri. I first came to Las Vegas in 2013 when I was cast as a singer in Donn Arden s Jubilee! I had the honor of being part of the last cast to perform the original version of the show before it was revamped.
How long have you been a dancer?
I ve been singing and dancing my whole life, but I started taking dance lessons when I was 5. I never expected to make it a career, though. In my freshman year of college, I happened to take a class taught by one of the dance faculty who encouraged me to join the theatre and dance department. I m so happy I listened to him!
