Many people go to Las Vegas and never venture far from the Strip. What they are missing out on is the extreme beauty of the landscape. There are many trails where one can enjoy a hike and keep healthy. One of the best hiking areas is Fire Wave Trail, only an hour s drive from downtown Las Vegas. This recreational site offers a 2.4-km trail which is relatively easy and offers incredible views of the landscape. You can even take your dog with you.
Fire Wave Trail is located inside the Valley of Fire State Park, which has patterned sandstone formation in varied colors. The beauty is breathtaking. The park is open all year round and there is a small entrance fee.
Because Las Vegas is known to get very hot in the afternoon, the best time to go hiking is early morning or late evening. The evening sunsets are majestic and will be forever etched in your memory. Outside of early morning in the summer, the best times to go hiking is in the fall, spring, and autumn. The trail has markers and the initial hike starts in the sand but then becomes rocky towards the end.
You will need proper attire as there is no shade. Wear a wide-brimmed hat, proper shoes, and take plenty of water. Always have a mobile phone in case of an emergency. The hike will take 20-30 minutes at a leisurely pace. Go early as the trail does get crowded during the latter part of the morning.
