Where will the Oakland Athletics be in a year?
That is the question that MLB fans are grappling with as the organization continues to calls for a new stadium. Unfortunately for the A’s, however, local politicians in Oakland, California refuse to move forward on the proposal for a one billion dollar stadium, leaving their future in serious doubt. In fact, it was revealed this week that the Athletics were granted permission by the MLB on May 11th to start exploring other options to host their team.
While Las Vegas, Nevada seemed like a virtual lock initially, especially with many experts claiming it was only a matter of time before Vegas got a Major League Baseball team, it has been revealed that the organization is also exploring Oregon as an option also. As if that wasn’t a big enough shake-up in the MLB world, the league is also exploring the idea of expansion teams in Vancouver, Nashville, Charlotte, Montreal, and British Columbia.
“The future success of the A’s depends on a new ballpark,” Fisher told ESPN at the time. “Oakland is a great baseball town, and we will continue to pursue our waterfront ballpark project. We will also follow MLB’s direction to explore other markets.” Interestingly enough, if the A’s leave, it will mean the loss of Oakland, California’s last professional sports team. The Las Vegas Raiders already left for Las Vegas last year, and the Golden State Warriors moved to San Francisco in 2019
Then again, many in Oakland, California, are upset with the president of the team, Dave Kaval, after he tweeted a picture of himself enjoying a Golden Knights playoff game Monday evening. Was this a hint about the A’s future?
It was a great first trip, Kaval told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Thursday night. Everyone was really welcoming to us. We don t have all the answers. We re approaching this and are trying to listen to understand what could work here in Las Vegas for a major league team.
