Admit it…even if you aren’t a Star Trek fan, you’re well aware of its cultural impact and ongoing success. There have been thirteen Star Trek theatrical movies and ten television/streaming series…with more on the way. With all of that intellectual property out there, chances are that fans and non-fans alike will find something to enjoy at the Las Vegas 55-Year Mission Tour by Creation Entertainment.
There’s nothing quite like a Star Trek fan gathering. With all of the costumes, role-playing, parties, musical performances, themed weddings, panel discussions, and celebrity encounters, the conventions themselves have become the stuff of legend. The 55-Year Mission Tour will be spread out over five days, with some celebs appearing only on certain dates. As of this writing, there are 112 guests scheduled to appear. If there’s an actor or performer that you absolutely must meet, you can schedule a professional photo to be taken with them by visiting this page. Autographs and selfies are also available…the stars themselves determine the prices and arrangements. Bring plenty of cash, as most don’t accept other forms of payment at their autograph tables.
One of the really great things about Creation Entertainment’s Conventions is that they aren’t limited to one particular franchise. The popular Vendor Room is jam-packed with stars from a myriad of fantasy, horror, and science fiction favorites. In previous years, I’ve chatted with Adrienne Barbeau (The Fog, Escape from New York, Creepshow), Oscar nominee Virginia Madsen (Dune, Candyman), Nightmare on Elm Street’s Heather Langenkamp and Lisa Wilcox, and Wesley Eure and Kathy Coleman (Will and Holly from LAND OF THE LOST).
This year, a number of COVID-19 protocols have been implemented for attendees, staff, and guests. Mask-wearing will be mandatory and fully vaccinated guests are being requested to provide proof. The 55-Year Mission Tour is a family-friendly event, and all guests will be expected to behave accordingly. Your entry provides you with unlimited in/out privileges, so you can always go to the casino lounge if you need to burn off some steam, grab a cocktail, or indulge in a smoke.
The list of special events accompanying this year’s festival is staggering. There will be a salute to William Shatner for his 90th birthday, a celebration of creator Gene Roddenberry’s 100th birthday, a concert by Nevada Pops Orchestra, a dinner show by actor/dancer Ben Vereen, movie screenings, a dance party, karaoke, a Rat Pack concert by Trek actors, science panels and a disco-style Dungeons and Dragons game (seriously).
