The Las Vegas Raiders embarrass themselves at home, NASCAR returns to Vegas, and big news on Adin Hill. All this and more last week in Las Vegas sports (Oct 14 – 20).
#5 NASCAR at Las Vegas Motor Speedway recap

NASCAR returned to Las Vegas Motor Speedway last Saturday, and the action-packed weekend didn’t disappoint. It all started with the Xfinity Series race, where AJ Allmendinger dominated the field on his way to locking himself into the championship round at Phoenix International Raceway.
He’s now within arm’s length of winning his first Xfinity Series championship if he can finish the job at Phoenix in November. Ryan Sieg finished second, Justin Allgaier came home third, Chandler Smith fourth, and Parke Kligerman fifth. The Xfinity Series action will continue next week at Homestead Miami Speedway for race two of the round of eight.
Logano comes to life
Fast forward to the NASCAR Cup Series, and Joey Logano took home the victory on Sunday. Christopher Bell tied to chase Logano down in the race’s final laps but came just short of catching the Penske Racing driver. This victory locks Logano into the round of four at Phoenix, which gives him a chance to compete for his third Cup Series championship.
The victory has added significance because Logano was eliminated from the round of eight last week at Charlotte. Another driver was then disqualified, opening a spot for Logano. Bell finished second, Daniel Suarez came in third, William Byron came home fourth, and Alex Bowman rounded out the top five
#4 Tom Brady’s ownership stake approved with major restrictions

Las Vegas Raiders fans have a reason for celebration following the unanimous approval of Tom Brady’s minority ownership stake. The 32 NFL owners voted last week to allow Tom Brady to own 5% of the Raiders’ organization. The news comes after several delayed votes and criticism over the deal’s terms.
Brady and his business partner will pay $224 million for their stake. This is a major devaluation from the $6.2 billion that the Raiders are now worth after moving to Las Vegas. Many fear the deal may have serious implications for the future of team ownership.
“I’m incredibly humbled and excited to have been unanimously approved as an owner of the Las Vegas Raiders,” Brady said in a statement Tuesday. “Throughout my NFL career, I’ve learned that at its core, football is a game of teamwork, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. The Raiders franchise and the city of Las Vegas embody these same values, and I’m honored to become part of that story.”
The ownership stake does come with a litany of rules that some believe will create a conflict of interest for Brady. For example, his deal stipulates that he is not allowed to call Raiders games as a broadcaster, can’t walk into any other team facilities, or even make statements about Raiders games.
#3 Las Vegas Golden Knights leave Adin Hill hanging

Adin Hill has done a lot for the Las Vegas Golden Knights and deserves a lot of credit for it. He helped the team to their first Stanley Cup in 2023. Despite this, the Golden Knights have reportedly not reached out to him to discuss a contract extension.
“I talked to both sides this morning after Oettinger’s deal, (and) nothing has been going on this point, there’s nothing imminent,” David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period explained. “Conversations are expected to pick up in and around the New Year.”
Puckapedia claims Las Vegas has $25 million in cap space for next season and several UFAs to sign. These include guys like Shea Theodore, Brayden McNabb, and Brett Howden.
#2 Davante Adams gets traded to the New York Jets
Davante Adams is now a New York Jet after the Raiders traded him for a conditional third-round pick. Adams had three seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders that never resulted in a winning record. He even dealt with constant changes at quarterback, which had to become annoying.
Adams is also accused of being disingenuous with fans and players following his departure. One example came earlier in the season when Adams outright claimed the rumors of him wanting out weren’t true. He even said he didn’t know why people were claiming he wanted out. This statement didn’t age well after the trade, and many fans feel cheated.
#1 Las Vegas Raiders destroyed by the Los Angeles Rams

There’s nothing worse than watching your favorite team get beat as badly as the Las Vegas Raiders did last week. They lost their third straight matchup on Sunday after a 20-15 mugging by the Los Angeles Rams. The game was so bad that the Raiders repeatedly had to rely on field goals from Daniel Carlson.
Aidan O’Connell started the game for Las Vegas but was removed after an apparent thumb injury. This left Gardner Minshew to fill the role, which turned into a complete disaster. He only completed 15 of 34 passes for 154 yards and three interceptions.
The Raiders buckle under pressure in the second quarter
The Los Angeles Rams took over the game in the second quarter with two back-to-back rushing touchdowns by Kyren Williams. He finished with 21 carries for 76 yards and 3.6 yards a carry for the Rams. This and the Rams’ defense ultimately won them this game and handed the Raiders an embarrassing butt-kicking.
Alexander Mattison led the ground game with 23 carries for 93 yards. Tre Tucker took one carry of his own for 11 yards, while Zamir White handed three for 13 yards. Brock Bowers led the passing gamers with ten receptions for 93 yards and 9.3 yards a catch. Unfortunately, this is probably the one highlight of the game for the Raiders, who otherwise struggled completely.
They are now 2-5, and dead last in the AFC West. Aidan O’Connell is also injured, and Gardner Minshew looks unfit for the role after his performance.
