Last Week in Las Vegas Sports (Mar 6 – 12)

WNBA gets a new television deal, someone defends Josh McDaniels, and Derek Carr makes a bizarre promise. All on last week in las Vegas sports (Mar 6 – 12).

#5 Derek Carr claims he can’t promise wins with the New Orleans Saints

Derek Carr is no longer a Raider, but it’s fun to watch the continuing fallout. The multi-time Pro Bowler has gone from a $121.5 million contract to getting benched with two games to go. The Raiders released him early in 2023, and he then signed with the Saints.

That roller coaster of events should make Carr thankful for a job. It should also make him aware of how much he needs to change. Instead, however, Carr spouted nonsense in his first interview as a Saint, and the internet is roasting him.

The former Raider claims he “can’t promise wins, but I promise you a great effort.” That’s not the kind of language you want to hear out of a guy you just paid $150 million for.

#4 WNBA to have 25 regular season games televised on ABC and ESPN

The WNBA has come a long way in its 26 years of existence, and the 2023 television schedule reflects that. The league will have 25  regular season games televised on ABC and ESPN. The first game will feature the Phoenix Mercury vs the Los Angeles Sparks in Britney Griner’s return to the court.

The Las Vegas Aces are taking part in a  doubleheader matchup against the Seattle Storm. Unfortunately, this will be the organization’s first of two away games. Fans can watch the action on ABC and ESPN throughout much of the season, allowing them to follow their championship quest.

“As we get set to tip off our 27th season, ESPN is once again stepping up as an incredibly engaged broadcast partner for the WNBA,” league commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in a statement. “We are grateful that ESPN will provide significant opportunities to tell the stories of the incredible players across the league in 2023.

#3 Kurt Busch gives a disappointing update on his road to recovery

Las Vegas,

The Kurt Busch saga continues, and while the Las Vegas native is making gains, it still isn’t enough. The former Cup Series champion and Daytona 500 winner is still experiencing concussion-like symptoms whenever he feels movement in the car.

“When you look at the therapist, and he’s looking back at you, there’s work to be done,” Busch said, in an interview with the Associated Press. “That’s really all I can give you… It’s just when I had my head in the headrest and there’s that movement, that bothers me.”

#2 Former NFL GM sheds new light on Josh Mcdaniel’s first season with Raiders

Josh McDaniels took over the Raiders in 2022, and the situation has become a train wreck ever since. McDaniels capped off the season with a 6-10 record, a benched quarterback, and an awful defense. Despite these shortcomings, former General Manager, Rick Spielman, believes there’s still hope. He also believes that McDaniels’ rough season might not be indicative of what he can do with the Raiders.

“I think there were so many close games, and I think as you get used to — I believe in Josh McDaniels, I believe in his system,” Spielman said, per the Inside Scoop. “Great coach, a great leader of men in the locker room. But it takes some time. Sometimes it clicks quicker, and other times, it doesn’t.”

#1 The Las Vegas Raiders quarterback search continues

The Las Vegas Raiders are still without a quarterback and are quickly running out of time. While some reports are stating Jarrett Stidham will be taking over, others believe the organization is looking elsewhere. There are three possible quarterbacks being linked to Las Vegas. These are Aaron Rodgers, Jimmy Garappalo, and Mac Jones. Unfortunately, one NFL Executive claims there isn’t much interest in the last one.

“Not getting the impression the #Raiders will be aggressive after Jimmy Garoppolo when the tampering period opens tomorrow, “the NFL executive claimed in an interview. “Wouldn’t be surprised if they have interest but also wouldn’t call them likely.”

Aaron Rodgers continues to be teased by some sources but is continuously listed as a long shot. While some may think Rodgers makes sense due to Davantae Adams being in Vegas, the Raiders might not be willing to spend that kind of money.

Another candidate is Mac Jones. The problem is the Patriots are probably looking to keep Jones and don’t want him poached. If true,  the Raiders will have to look toward free agency or even the draft to find a quarterback.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, was last week in Las Vegas sports!
