Last Week in Las Vegas Sports (June 10 – 16)

Analysts predict trouble for The Raiders season, Kyle Busch is open to a new home in 2025, and The Rock hints at grand things for Wrestlemania 41. All this and more last week in Las Vegas sports (June 10 – 16).

#5 The Rock drops hints about WrestleMania 41

WrestleMania 41 comes to Las Vegas in 2025, and The Rock has already raised the stakes.

“We’re on the 1-yard line to create the biggest WrestleMania of all time and the biggest match of all time at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas. I’ll just leave it at that, Final Boss style,” The Rock said during a recent interview with ESPN.

While anything can happen, The Rock is most likely referring to a title match between him and Roman Reigns. This was the rumored match for WrestleMania 40 until WWE faced opposition, forcing them to flip the script slightly. He could also be referring to a winner-take-all triple-threat match between him, Roman Reigns, and Cody Rhodes.

#4 Las Vegas Aces lose to the New York Liberty

The Las Vegas Aces are reeling after a 90-82 loss to the New York Liberty on Saturday. This is their first meeting since the Aces managed to edge them out in the WNBA Finals, and it marks a very concerning turn for the season. Las Vegas can’t catch a break.

Kelsey Plum led the way with 22 points, three assists, and two rebounds in the loss. A’ja Wilson also scored 21 points, three assists, and nine rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Liberty. The Aces were outscored 28-20 in the first quarter by New York.

After the loss, Las Vegas is now 6-6 and sits third in the western division. Following their three-game losing streak last week, they have also dropped to fifth in the overall league standings.

#3  Kyle Busch stays at RCR

Kyle Busch is struggling this season, and things are only getting worse now that he’s down to 11 chances to lock himself in the playoffs. Still, the Las Vegas native says he’ll stick out the rest of his contract at Richard Childress Racing.

The caveat is that he also said anything is possible once his deal with RC expires in 2025. This means he could be welcomed back at Joe Gibbs Racing or maybe even 23XI with a new charter. There are even rumors he could end up at Hendrick Motorsports, making for one of the most historic reunions ever.

#2 Las Vegas Raiders projected to win under 6.5 games in 2024

There’s nothing worse than being a Las Vegas Raiders fan during the preseason. Not only are you subjected to crazy rumors, but you also have to deal with some of the worst projections in the league. Cynthia Frelund from the NFL Network listed the team at under 6.5 wins this season.

These numbers are less than ideal, but they are just predictions. Even Frelund admits she might be wrong.

“My gut tells me my model underestimates them. I think there are two primary reasons why they could have been more successful than my model projects,” the analyst said. “First, they have favorable spacing between some of their hardest games; for example, they’re at Cincinnati in Week 9, but then have their bye before taking a trip to Miami in Week 11.

#1 Raiders reportedly suffering on offense in training camp

Antonio Pierce promised fans the greatest show on turf but might end up eating those words. Apparently, neither Aidan O’Connell nor Gardner Minshew are impressing team officials so far in training camp.

“In what has been a trend throughout OTAs, though, neither O’Connell nor Minshew stood out on the field,” Tasheen Reid of the Atheltic said in an assessment of the team’s progress. “They’ve struggled to push the ball downfield, have had too many off-target throws, and don’t look to have their timing down. It’s still early, but both quarterbacks have a long way to go.”

What makes these comments so worrying is that the Raiders have some of the best wide receivers in the league, including guys like Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers, and Brock Bowers. O’Connell and Minshew continuously missing targets like this doesn’t bode well for the future.
