The good: putting on a competitive series

While the Las Vegas Golden Knights suffered almost the exact same fate they did last year, they really looked like a stronger team this time around. In fact, between winning two semi-final games and almost forcing a game seven if it wasn’t for an overtime goal, the Knights gave a great effort in this series. Sure, it wasn’t enough to move on to the Stanley Cup Finals, and the Knights will have to wait for a year before getting another shot, but winning two games this time around was a bit of an accomplishment.
In the end, it wasn’t the outcome everyone wanted, but this was a really good team this year. If you look at the all-star goalie combination, you could argue that 2022 might really be the year the team goes all the way.
The bad: losing two straight games twice in the series

It’s no secret that consistency is key for the NHL playoffs. It’s also exactly what the Las Vegas Golden Knights needed heading into their series against the Montreal Canadiens. Unfortunately for the Golden Knights, they didn’t manage to win back-to-back games even once. They did win the first game of the series 4-1, which looked like a promising start, but dropping back-to-back games twice was what took them out of the game.
The first instance was in games 2 and 3, where the Knights managed to get outgunned by one score in both contests. The Knights then went on to win game 4 to give them renewed life in the series, but then dropped back-to-back games again. Of course, the Golden Knights had a chance to force a game seven and almost did by taking the Canadiens into overtime in game 6, but the opposing team responded with an early goal that sealed the Knights’ fate. It was just so hard to watch, especially after watching them win four straight games to make the conference finals.
The ugly: No progress

Progress is key.
The Las Vegas Golden Knights had a chance to wow us this year, but they ended up blowing it. In fact, despite putting up two wins in this year’s conference finals, the Knights were still knocked out of the playoffs in the exact same spot they were last year. Furthermore, they only managed to win one more game than they did last time, which has to feel frustrating for long-time Golden knights fans.
In the end, this was a very frustrating way to end the season. Still, if the team can manage to add offensive pieces during the offseason and work a little bit more on their goalie rotation, they might be able to find a road to the finals again. For now, though, it was a season with little to no progress. How disappointing.
