Steeped In History

When Sand Dollar Lounge opened in 1976, it quickly became a draw for iconic musicians. B.B. King, Muddy Waters, and even Mick Jagger have walked through its humble yet enchanting doors. As is typical in ever-changing Vegas, the bar fell out of favor for a while and closed in 2007. Just two short years later, a pair of gentlemen named Anthony Jamison and Nathan Grates restored the lounge to its original glory. Now Sand Dollar is consistently chosen as “Best Of” in a variety of categories. One visit and you’ll see why. A second location is slated to open at downtown’s Plaza Hotel very soon.

What’s a dive bar without a great band to stir up the crowd? Sand Dollar Lounge continues its legacy of free live music, offering a wide variety of local legends along with familiar household names. Since reopening in 2009, it has hosted performances by members of bands like The Who, Rolling Stones, Blues Travelers, and Marshall Tucker Band.

Upcoming shows include Jimmy Powers & The Hang Dynasty, Stoney Curtis Band, and Toney Rocks. Just this week saw the world debut of Pauly Shore and the Crustys. Yes, THAT Pauly Shore. The band was literally assembled by Shore from musicians performing at Sand Dollar under various guises

Amazing Artisan Pizza

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then the ones here should be worth a few napkins. How can one stop from drooling when you see how yummy a Sand Dollar pizza looks? Having tried a few of them myself, this writer can testify that they’re worth the drive….but you don’t have to go far to get one, which is even better. Sand Dollar Lounge is literally five minutes from Venetian, Wynn, Palazzo, and Treasure Island.

There are seven pizzas on the year-round menu, boasting such whimsical names as Boars On Parade, a meat lover’s fantasy ($13), Champagne and Reefer, their version of the Supreme ($16), and Buffalo Soldier (garlic chicken, blue cheese crumbles and Frank’s Red Hot Sauce – $12). Immersive Holiday Experiences

When it comes to Christmas, Sand Dollar Lounge doesn’t fool around. During the holiday season, the Lounge completely transforms into a fantasy world of sights, sounds, and tastes. “Miracle on Spring Mountain” is a holiday experience that will warm your heart well past the Christmas season. The fully immersive Winter Wonderland runs from Nov. 22 through an unforgettable New Year s Eve celebration.

In addition to the festive decor (think: elves, candy canes, stockings, and Santa! Santa! Santa!), and free nightly entertainment, a few highlights to look forward to are:

Theme/Dress up Nights – Including:

  • Nov 28 – Vodka/Latke Party (Free latkes, cheap vodka shots)
  • Nov. 29 – Candy Cane Night
  • Dec. 4 – Ugly Sweater Party (Don your rattiest raglan or most savage sweatshirt and join in on the party taking place at all Miracle locations nationwide)
  • Dec. 13 – Grinch Night
  • Dec. 20 – Naughty or Nice Night (Mostly Naughty, but you do you).

Chef Pizza Pop-Ups – On select Wednesdays and Sundays throughout the pop-up, local prominent chefs will take over the Sand Dollar s pizza kitchen to craft 2-3 of their own creations.

Holiday-Inspired Cocktails – Unique specialty cocktails and matching glassware (available for purchase). Though some of the glassware and cocktail names are the same from prior years, recipes are all new. This year s lineup includes:

  • Christmapolitan (vodka, elderflower, dry vermouth, spiced cranberry sauce, lime, rosemary, absinthe mist)
  • Jolly Koala (bourbon, cacao nib ape?ritif, dry vermouth, mulled wine reduction, mole bitters)
  • Christmas Carol Barrel (reposado tequila, coffee liqueur, dry curac?ao, spiced chocolate, aromatic bitters, orange bitters)
  • On Dasher (gin, vanilla liqueur, marshmallow, cardamon, black pepper, lemon, cream, egg, soda)
  • Bad Santa -served hot- (aged Jamaican rum, velvet falernum, mixed spiced butter, oat milk, nutmeg)

Hours for this special pop-up will be 3 p.m. – 4 a.m. seven days a week, closed Thanksgiving Day.
