Five Bands That Got Their Start In Las Vegas

With the huge number of performers and artists who got their start in Las Vegas, it s clear that the bright lights and buzzing atmosphere of the city encourage creative expression in a way that no other place ever will. Here are five bands who took Sin City by storm before going on to dominate the rest of the world.

1. The Cab

This rock band started off with two members friends who would play music together at Liberty High School in Henderson. Initially signed on by the local label, Olympus Records, the group broke out nationally in the late 2000s with their third single, Bounce, which peaked at No. 69 on the Billboard Pop 100 chart.

2. The Killers

Perhaps one of the most well-known bands to have come out of Las Vegas, The Killers have sold more than 18 million records worldwide, garnering widespread critical acclaim with their 2004 debut album, Hot Fuss. And their momentum has only grown since then. The band was formed in 2001 by lead singer Brandon Flowers who would sneak the rest of the members into a room at the UNLV to jam and write songs together.

3. Panic! at the Disco

The proclaimed voice of the emos especially during the early 2000s era this band is known for head-banging hits like I Write Sins Not Tragedies, The Ballad of Mona Lisa, and This Is Gospel. The group got its start in 2004 in the suburbs of Sin City although its founding members, Ryan Ross and Spencer Smith, are no longer in the band. Still, lead singer and original member Brendon Urie has managed to prove that Panic! at the Disco is here to stay.

4. Slaughter

The popular heavy metal band of the 1990s was formed in Las Vegas and took the city by storm. Their first album, Stick It To Ya, saw a great many hit singles like Fly to the Angels, and Up All Night. It reached double platinum in the United States and the band reached new heights of popularity afterward. Without a doubt, Slaughter is one of the most memorable bands to have come out of Sin City.

5. Imagine Dragons

Dan Reynolds, the lead singer of the world-renowned band, Imagine Dragons, was a member of the Las Vegas Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Despite his religious background, Reynolds formed the group in 2008, making waves in Sin City before becoming famous across the United States. Since then, their hit single Radioactive has topped a ton of charts, even snagging Platinum and Gold records.
