1. The Name
Between 1980 and 1987, it was named Sundance Hotel, The Fitzgeralds Hotel and Casino between 1987 and 2012, and the D Las Vegas since 2012. The hotel completely rebranded in 2012, adopting the new name and shedding its “Luck of Irish” theme. The renovations cost about $22 million, but it gave the joint a new modern touch. The D stands for Downtown, but it also refers to the owner Derek Stevens’ nickname and his hometown, Detroit.
2. The Accommodation and Structures
The D Las Vegas features 629 deluxe rooms, 22 contemporary suites, an 11,000-square ft convention center, an outdoor pool, and a 2,565-square ft modern, top-notch showroom and theatre. It also flaunts a 3,5534-square ft gaming floor with new and vintage casino games. Even better, the second floor hosts one of the last few Sigma Derby Games in Vegas.
3. Restaurant and Bar
The establishment also houses a state-of-the-art restaurant with a bar featuring experienced dancing and flair bartenders. There is also an attached video exhibition developed by Roger Parent, former Cirque du Soleil producer, with over 40 giant flat-screen monitors and LED signage.
4. Events
The D Las Vegas hosts some incredible events. Most notable is the martial events. Back in 2013, the spot hosted Lion Fight 11, a Muay Thai Martial Arts Tournament. The tournament featured a famous bout between former Muay Thai Japan Champion Tetsuya Yamato and Kevin Ross, an American Muay Thai boxer, among many other matches.
5. Bitcoin Use
This establishment is among the first entities in Vegas to embrace the use of bitcoin as an acceptable currency. You can pay for anything at the hostel using bitcoin. Consequently, they have an onsite bitcoin ATM where their customers can exchange bitcoins for cash.
