Everything You Need To Know About SummerSlam in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is hosting SummerSlam this year and there are a lot of rumors about what will take place at Allegiant Stadium.

#5 WWE planning short SummerSlam due to Paquio fight

While nothing is confirmed as of yet, one rumor has it that WWE is planning to end the pay-per-view early in order to allow fans to watch both SummerSlam and the Manny Pacquiao versus Errol Spence Jr. With that being said, and the biggest party of the summer expected to start at 8 p.m., that means SummerSlam would have to end well before 11 pm.

Now, why would this happen? WWE is in a very vulnerable spot right now. If fans are forced to choose between watching SummerSlam and watching Pacquiao throw down again, SummerSlam might lose.

#4 John Cena return

SummerSlam needs to bring in wrestling’s heavy hitters. In fact, between SummerSlam being one of the big four pay-per-views of the year, and the company usually planning big angles for the show, there is an added expectation this time around. Rumor has it that WWE is pushing 16-time world champion, John Cena, to make a return at Summerslam to compete against Roman Reigns for the title.

Don’t get too excited though, While that does sound like a very appealing match-up, it conflicts with another report that the company wants to do something between Edge and Roman Reigns.  Furthermore, with how Edge ambushed Reigns on Friday Night Smackdown, it looks like a match between them is more of a reality.

#3 Possible Brock Lesnar return

According to Sean Sapp of Fightful.com, WWE has been in talks with Brock Lesnar about a potential return, and while nothing seems to be concrete yet, there is reason to believe that this could work. Not only is that evident by how it allows WWE to gain some mainstream legitimacy heading into a very crucial period, but it also gives the company a box office draw. That’s what WWE needs right now, and only Brock Lesnar can bring it.

#2 Edge will have a match

Edge returned to WWE on a recent edition of Friday Night Smackdown and went right for Roman Reigns, who defeated him to retain the WWE Title back in April at WrestleMania 37. This seems to lead to the idea that Reigns versus Edge will either be the stopgap that leads to Summerslam, or a Summerslam match-up that will be built up over the rest of the summer. Either way, rumor has it that Edge will be competing at the upcoming big four pay-per-view, making this a very interesting storyline to watch develop.

According to Jon Alba of News 13, Orlando, “Edge coming back to the blue brand is a strategic move to set him up for a match against Roman Reigns at Summerslam. It’s not known who his opponent will ultimately be, but the beatdown by Ege on Roman Reigns seems to point to their feud reigniting. Some rumors claim he will face Seth Rollins though, which could be an interesting angle for the company as a dream match. Another option could be to do another triple threat match for the WWE title and include Seth Rollins this time.”

#1 No dream match between Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley

There are few things more saddening than telling a pro wrestling fan that a dream match is off the table, but that is the sad reality we live in. Unfortunately for those hoping to see WWE Champion Bobby Lashley versus Brock Lesnar, it looks like it will not happen.  WWE is seemingly once again refusing to give fans want they want and what’s most astounding is their reasoning for the move.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Pro Wrestling Observer, WWE will not pull the trigger on Bobby Lashley versus Brock Lesnar because they have this idea to save it for WrestleMania 38. What that means for Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley at Summerslam remains to be seen, but it appears that WWE is not moving forward with this dream match. Interestingly enough, however, Lesnar has been moved to the active section on WWE.com’s roster and he has been mentioned on television again. This could mean Brock Lesnar versus someone else, but who knows.
