Lake Mead is a man-made oasis in the middle of the dessert. If you are trying to beat the heat of summer, this is the best place to come. You can find both tent and RV camping options. You can even rent a houseboat that can accommodate up to 12 people. The boat is equipped with kitchen, dining, and bathroom facilities. In addition, more services are available like renting a fishing or ski boat or even a personal watercraft like a jetski.
2. Cathedral Gorge State Park
About a million years ago, Nevada’s desert was flooded by a massive lake which resulted in amazing canyons, spires, and splendid rock formations. The whole family will have a blast exploring Cathedral Gorge State Park‘s unique caverns and valleys. There is also a visitor center where you can learn more about the area’s geologic and prehistoric history. The cost is $12 per night and the campground is open year-round.
3. Valley of Fire State Park
Valley of Fire State Park has unique and marvelous red sandstone formations across the state line from Utah to Arizona. It is Nevada’s largest and oldest state park, including the prehistoric Basketmaker and Anaszai Pueblo cultures. There is a visitor center that showcases the geology, ecology, and history of the area. There are numerous hiking trails across the park and various petroglyph panels at the Mouse’s Tank and Atlatl Rock.
4. Great Basin National Park
If you are looking for some greenery, then, Great Basin National Park is the place to come. It has magical basins and a wide range of topography from the Rocky Mountains to vast sagebrush valleys. This place is well-known for its Lehman Caves, olden bristlecone pine trees, and more than 100km of developing hiking trails. This huge park has five developed campgrounds with tent pads and fire rings and one primitive campground. F.Y.I camping at developed sites costs $12 a night but primitive sites are free.
5. McWilliams Campground
McWilliams Campground is located close to Mount Charleston. The campground was completely renovated with modern washrooms, tent pads, and other infrastructure. It is located at an elevation of 8,600 feet which gives a picture-perfect view of the valley covered with towering ponderosa and white pine trees. An ideal destination for camping during spring, summer, and fall.
