The combination of Robin Lehner and Marc-Andre Fleury was truly a dream team for the Las Vegas Golden Knights, but it came to an end before the team could capture a championship. It also ended with Fleury being traded away, which was very surprising due to him being the better goalie statistically. While Laurent Brossoit has tendered the net honorably this season behind Lehner, their duo just doesn’t seem to have the same magic that the original combo did.
It’s no secret that moving Fleury was a money decision, but fans were still rocked.
#5 Opening day victory against the Seattle Kraken

The Las Vegas Golden Knights kicked off their season against the Seattle Kracken and while their new divisional rivals put up a decent game, it wasn t enough to save Seattle from a 4-3 loss. The win was a great start for the Knights, who started the first period with two unanswered goals. The Kracken responded in the second period with two goals of their own but gave up a goal in the process. Things finally came down to the final period, where Chandler Stephenson would nail his first goal of the season to give the win to Vegas.

As much as fans of the Las Vegas Golden Knights were excited to see what happened next after a victory against the Seattle Kracken, they had to have noticed cracks in their armor. In fact, between allowing two goals in the second period of the game to a newly formed team and almost losing the game in the final minutes of the contest, it was obvious that there was a lot to improve on as the season went on.
These cracks grew bigger in a 6-2 blowout to the Los Angeles Kings and were made even worse in a 3-1 loss against the St. Louis Blues. The Knights were now 1-2 and desperately in need of some momentum to turn things around. That didn t happen right away, though, and the Knights would next suffer a 5-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers. This resulted in a 1-4 record and one of the worst starts to their season in years.
#3 The injury bug

Believe it or not, the injury bug hit the Las Vegas Golden Knights early and often throughout the first part of the 2021 season and they are only now starting to regroup from the mess. That mess started on October 12, when Nicholas Roy, Mattia Janmark, Brett Howden, Jake Bischoff, and William Carrier all fell victim to injuries during the first game of the season. That was followed up by veteran Alex Stone suffering an undisclosed injury three days later. As if that wasn t enough, the Golden Knights also lost Max Pacioretty, Alec Martinez, and several others before the first month of the season were even over.
Another big problem is the recent lower back injury of Robin Lehner, who will need Laurent Brossoit to take his place during a crucial part of the season. Pacioretty also recently suffered a wrist injury in December, leaving the team without another cornerstone of their organization. Will the injury bug ever come to an end?
