Fortunately for Cambridge, her mother suggested she join the basketball team to make new friends and she has been a straight-up baller ever since. Of course, she had a lot to learn and a long way to go before she would eventually join the Las Vegas Aces, but her journey is nothing short of inspirational
2. Kelsey Plum
Can you believe Kelsey Plum almost didn t play basketball? While that might sound like not that big of a deal, this is the same woman that would go on to break The NCAA Women s all-time scoring record and later the record for most points scored in a season! It s almost as if it was meant to be and she might have known that from the very beginning.
3. A’ja Wilson
Sometimes in life, there are signs that a person is destined for greatness. A Ja Wilson is most likely one of those people. In fact, between sweeping all the player of the year awards in one season and being named NCAA s women s basketball player of the year, it s obvious that Wilson was a spectacular talent at a young age.
As if that wasn t enough to prove that this woman is an elite athlete, she also graduated from South Carolina University as the all-time leading scorer at that school. Wilson might have had some early struggles after being drafted by the Las Vegas Aces in 2018, but she seems to be quickly finding her footing.
4. Jackie Young
The battle of the sexes has been an ongoing theme when it comes to today s sports world and while some believe that the girls will never be as good as the boys, that s not always true. In fact, at the end of Jackie Young s high school basketball career, she eclipsed 3268 points, which made her the highest scorer in her school’s history.
What s even more amazing, however, is the fact that the record was previously held by a boy named, Damon Bailey. If nothing else, this proves that women can do better than the boys on any given game day and deserve a lot more credit than they get in the mainstream sports world.
5. Alex Bentley (former player)
There are those that love the game of basketball and then there are those that take that level of devotion to a whole new level. For six-year-old Alex Bently, it was attending Indiana fever basketball games as a child and later going on to become an intern for the team at one point that started the fire.
As if that wasn t impressive enough, she took her high school basketball team to 30-0 during her senior year and ended up winning the championship. She was also ranked the number one women s basketball player in the United States, which is one of the highest honors possible for a young athlete.
