Kyle Busch s declining performance at Joe Gibbs Racing

Kyle Busch might look like one of the most solid drivers in NASCAR, especially after making the playoffs for the ninth straight year in a row, but he’s actually on somewhat of a decline. This is evident by the fact that he has gone from five victories in 2019 to barely managing to put together three wins in the last two seasons. Busch has also missed the final four in the last two years, a stark contrast to when he made the final four-five times in a row.
Busch just hasn’t been the same driver the last couple of seasons- and it’s starting to show.
The youth movement

It’s no secret that there’s a youth movement in NASCAR, and while Joe Gibbs Racing has remained somewhat defiant to that change, it will affect them eventually. Unfortunately for Kyle Busch, who is declining performance-wise, he’s becoming less marketable for the sport. Now, that’s not to say he doesn’t have a few years left behind the wheel of the #18 Toyota Camry, but it seems more and more unlikely that he would continue past 40. He is 36 at the time of this writing.
Kyle Busch not having a lot left to accomplish in his career

Although Kyle Busch could probably notch a few more victories in the NASCAR Cup Series on his way to maybe one or two more championships, he will never reach the seven championships held by Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt, and Richard Petty. He’s also 17 races away from making the top eight on the list of all-time winningest drivers in the Cup Series, meaning that it is unlikely that he will be able to accomplish this either.
With that being said, Kyle Busch has amassed over 200 victories across NASCAR’s three top series of competition and has several high-profile wins to his name. And he still could notch a Daytona 500 victory. This year will mark his 17th attempt at winning the Great American race and could be fundamental in his decision to retire or not.
Kyle Busch losing Mars company as a sponsor after 2022 season

Mars candy company recently announced that they would not be sponsoring Kyle Busch beyond the 2022 NASCAR season, leaving the two-time Cup Series champion looking for a replacement. He has been on a steady decline, making him not as marketable as he once was.
With that being said, there isn’t much reason for Busch to go on further. What’s the point in competing at NASCAR’s highest level if he no longer has the sponsorship dollars to be competitive? Think about it! Busch hates his racecar on a good day, do you really think he’s going to be satisfied running mid-pack in a lesser funded car?
Kyle Busch’s lingering injuries

Let s be honest here.
Kyle Busch will never be the same after fracturing both his legs during a NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway. In fact, after plowing head-on into the inside barrier, we should probably be thankful that Busch was still able to compete.
YOu could make a good argument that his drop in performance has to do with lingering issues with his injuries. That would explain why he would go from winning five races a year to only winning three in two years.
