#5 Becky Hammon is the new head coach

New head coach Becky Hammon could be the gamechanger that the Las Vegas Aces need. Just look at her decade-long career as a player and her time as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs. That s a lot of experience, and Las Vegas plans to capitalize on it.
Now, there will be a feeling-out period, but we fully expect the organization to benefit from her coaching. In fact, it might be enough to finally clean up some of the team s issues on the court. She has the knowledge; it s all a matter of how she imparts it to the team and how they use it.
#4 Mark Davis is the owner

A change in ownership might not seem like much to talk about, but it could play a huge role in the Las Vegas Aces reaching that next level. Mark Davis bought the team from MGM Management in 2021 and has already made a slew of changes that is sure to benefit Sin City. He also brings a lot of connections to the organization that should help ensure they have everything they need to compete in 2022.
From hiring Becky Hammon to making Nikki Fargas Team President, Davis has shaped the team in his image. He has also advocated for players getting paid more, having better training facilities, and getting the respect they deserve.
#3 The Las Vegas Aces’ best players have a year of chemistry together

What if the Las Vegas Aces’ biggest advantage is the fact that their super team has now played together for a year? Of course, Liz Cambage departed the organization for the Los Angeles Sparks at the beginning of the season, but there aren t that many differences beyond that departure. The draft could even allow Las Vegas to improve their roster and make it playoff ready.
Riquna Williams, Chelsea Grey, Dearica Hamby, and Jackie Young have all had a year together to build chemistry and could very well capitalize on it in 2022. Add in new additions like Kalani Brown and Sydney Colson, and you might just have a team that can march their way to the title. They have all the resources in the world to make it, and now they have the chemistry too!
#2 The Las Vegas Aces have already come close to a WNBA Championship

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgCdUQHvS0o
How many times have The Las Vegas Aces come close to winning a WNBA title? They have actually made the playoffs in three out of their first four years as an organization and reached the WNBA Finals in 2020. Sadly, they were ultimately swept by The Seattle Storm.
Fast forward to 2021, and Las Vegas lost a very competitive Conference Finals matchup that saw the team get beaten 3-2 by the Phoenix Mercury. This was particularly disappointing because the team had a record of 28-4 that season and was hyped up as one of the big playoff threats come the postseason. What made it even worse was that the Aces were considered the better team but got beaten out by an organization that struggled for much of the season.
The Aces have come close to winning a title so many times with their current squad that with Becky Hammon as a coach, Mark Davis bankrolling the operation as owner, and the changes the team makes during the offseason, how could this not be a championship-winning team? All the pieces are there for success.
#1 WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson still leads the team

A ja Wilson is one of the greatest players in the WNBA right now and probably one of the biggest reasons why the Las Vegas Aces have made the playoffs for the last three straight years. While none of those playoff runs have resulted in a championship, Las Vegas did come close when they met The Seattle Storm in The 2020 WNBA Finals.
Wilson is the centerpiece of this organization and someone that can win them a title if the right parts are around her. Fortunately for the Aces, they can now give Wilson everything she needs to take this team to a title. Hammon can also develop their current players and create a game plan that capitalizes on Wilson s strengths!
