#5 Ryback telling Vince McMahon he will be the next John Cena
Everyone wants to be the top guy at WWE, and Ryback was no different. In fact, some wrestling sources to this day claim that Ryback had a title run in the works, but it didn’t work out for one reason or another. With that being said, the idea of Ryback telling Vince McMahon during a meeting that he was the next John Cena is absurd and is probably part of why WWEE ultimately gave him the boot in 2016. Ryback was just never going to be the centerpiece of the company.
However, that’s not how he sees it.
Before they booked me to lose seven pay per views in a row, I was number two in merchandise in WWE, Ryback told Sports Illustrated. I was beating John Cena on certain nights. I had half the amount of merchandise that he had, but would beat him in shirts, chains, and photos on some nights and be right there with him the rest. From a business standpoint, if you see a guy who is red hot and the crowd is behind him, you should be going out of your way to make merchandise and book and protect this guy because you have lightning in a bottle. But that was not the case, and instead they had to go out of their way to make me look bad.
#4 Kyle Busch losing a fight to Joey Logano in his own hometown
There’s nothing like a good old-fashioned brawl after a NASCAR race, and that is exactly what Kyle Busch had in mind after making contact with fellow driver Joey Logano at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2017. In fact, the future two-time Cup Series champion parked his stockcar near his pit box, got out, took off his helmet, and made his way to Logano. Camera people decided to follow and caught the beginning of a huge fistfight between the drivers. Kyle Busch took the first swing, and fans went nuts watching two of NASCAR’s most hated drivers go at it.
What was interesting and ultimately embarrassing about this was that after Busch was separated from the fight, he appeared to have blood trickling down his forehead. That’s right! Kyle “Candyman” Busch lost a fight that he started in his own hometown. Logano later quipped that Busch didn’t land a single blow.
#3 The Golden Knights losing in the finals in their first season.
There’s something about the Las Vegas Golden Knights in their inaugural 2017 season that made you want to root for them. They carried that momentum all the way to the playoffs, accumulating 51 wins and 24 losses along the way. It’s almost like this group had something magical about them.
The team went on to defeat the Kings, the Sharks, and the Jets, amounting to a playoff record of 12-3. Not only was that seriously impressive for a first-year team, but it also had many thinking they would be the favorites to win the Stanley Cup Finals. A finals victory would have made the Knights the first team to win the championship in their inaugural season. Sadly, that never happened, and the Knights were destroyed over five games.
#2 The Las Vegas Aces getting swept by the Seattle Storm
The Las Vegas Aces might have had one of their best seasons as an organization in 2020, but it all came to a crashing halt when they got swept in the WNBA finals by the Seattle Storm. Not only was the outcome completely devastating due to how hard these women had worked throughout the season, but also from everything they had to overcome along the way. Keep in mind that the Aces lost Kelsey Plum and Liz Cambage at the beginning of the season, leaving many experts to write them off completely.
#1 Las Vegas Raiders losing 43-6 to the Atlanta Falcons
The Las Vegas Raiders lost many games in 2020, but their 43-6 to the Atlanta Falcons has to be one of the worst blows. So many people were pulling for the Raiders to be playoff contenders before this game. Add in the fact that the defense couldn’t contain one of the worst offenses in the league and Derek Carr’s lack of productivity on the field, and this was just embarrassing to watch.
