5 Key Plays From the Las Vegas Raiders vs Panthers Week One Match-Up

The Las Vegas Raiders came up clutch with a 34-30 victory over the Carolina Panthers in week one, but these five plays were the deciding factor.

1. Josh Jacobs first qaurter score

While there was some concern about a sophomore slump when it came to Josh Jacobs in 2020, he put all that talk to rest by scoring the first touchdown of the season. The score was the result of an eight play, 75 yards up the field, which ended with a one-yard run by Jacobs to put his team up 7-3 earlier in the first part of the game.

2. Derek Carr’s 45-yard pass to Henry Ruggs III

Another concern this season was whether Derek Carr could come up big, and he showed some promise in that aspect. Carr pulled off a 45-yard pass to Henry Ruggs III that put the Raiders at the one-yard line and set the stage for Josh Jacobs to score on the very next play of the game.

3. Derek Carr’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Nelson Agholor

Derek Carr might not have put up the best performance of any quarterback in week one, but he did an extremely serviceable job with what he was given. One example of that was a 23-yard pass to former Philadelphia Eagle, Nelson Algholor, which put the Raiders up 17-12 and again showed just how easy it was for Carr to get down the field

Carr went 4/5 for 46 yards during this drive and relied a lot on his running back. It seems like Carr and Jacobs working in tandem is the key to this team’s success.

4. 54 -yard field goal by Daniel Carlson

It s no secret that the little things count- and that includes field goals. Fortunately for the Raiders, Daniel Carlson nailed a 54-yard field goal late in the third quarter to put the team up 20-15 over the Panthers.  Putting three points on the board did put a lot of pressure on The Panthers to get in the endzone.

It worked. The Panthers would go three and out on their very next drive and punt the ball back to The Raiders. Adding insult to injury, the Raiders would set up Josh Jacobs for another short run to the endzone on that drive, which put them up 27-12. Not only did this put the game out of reach, but it also showed how important field goals can be to a game.

5. Josh Jacobs’ game-winning six-yard run

It wouldn t be a Raiders football game without the defense blowing a big lead late in the game and that’s exactly what happened during their week one game against the Panthers. In fact, the Raiders gave up two touchdowns in the second-half and were on the verge of losing their very first game of the regular season.

Fortunately for the team, however, Derek Carr came up clutch in the fourth quarter and got his team down the field in one final blaze of glory. The drive was topped off with a six-yard touchdown by Jacobs, which put the team up 34-30 and ultimately won them the game.
