Kurt Busch has always had an exciting personality, and while that hasn’t always faired well for him, it has made him one of the most polarizing drivers on the Cup Series circuit. Of course, he has cooled down over the years and even went to anger management counseling at the height of his issues, but he is still beyond passionate. The question, though, is whether that passion will somehow conflict with what 23XI Racing is trying to do with Bubba Wallace?
For example, it’s pretty evident that Bubba Wallace is the future of 23XI Racing, but what if Kurt Busch starts having success before he does? Not only will this push the notion that Wallace doesn’t deserve his ride, which is detrimental to his public image, but it could also force Wallace into a jealous, defensive position. That’s not the kind of tension you want between teammates.
In the end, Busch looks pretty level-headed, and so does Wallace. Furthermore, Kurt Busch was highly supportive of Ross Chastain during his time at Chip Ganassi Racing, making him an excellent mentor for the young driver. His experience in the Cup Series could even be what finally helps Wallace Jr to a championship. Here’s hoping the two work great together and can be competitive against the top teams in NASCAR.

While that might seem like a ridiculous question, especially with the Las Vegas native having over 40 wins and a championship in the Cup Series to his name, Kurt Busch hasn’t performed that well as of late. Furthermore, there are guys out there like Matt DiBenedetto, Ryan Newman, and several Xfinity Series drivers who would like to cut their teeth in the Cup Series next season. Then again, Busch has more experience than some of the aforementioned drivers and could be a steal for the organization.
Think about it! You have team owners Denny Hamlin, arguably one of the best drivers in the Cup Series, and Michael Jordan paired together as a sort of famous sports behemoth. They have the funds, they have the connections, they have the sponsorship, they have everything they need for 23XI Racing to succeed. They have a veteran driver who knows how to get the best out of a car and another big-name sponsor in Monster energy.

Believe it or not, Kurt Busch could have a challenging road ahead of him in 2022. This is due to NASCAR’s charter system rule, which issues 36 charters for teams to compete every week in the Cup Series. The other four slots in the field are filled by teams wishing to compete in the upcoming race. While those positions used to be filled by qualifying, the onset of the pandemic has forced NASCAR to set the field by random draw, making getting in a race a crapshoot.
Now, 23XI Racing was in talks with Front Row Motor Sports about acquiring the charter of the #34 Michael McDowell or the #38 of Anthoney Alfredo, but talks fell through earlier in the season. It’s believed that Hamlin and 23XI Racing are now in discussions with Spire Motorsports to gain a charter, but nothing is set in stone yet. Unfortunately for Kurt Busch and the rest of the organization, that means they might end up going into 2022 completely blind.
#2 Can Kurt Busch win with 23XI Racing?

Winning is significant in the world of NASCAR Cup Series racing, and it’s only logical to ask the question about the upcoming season with Kurt Busch and 23XI Racing. Sure, Bubba Wallace secured the team’s first win at the fall Talladega race, but that was a rain-shortened, restrictor-plate race. When it comes to a cookie-cutter mile and half-tracks, however, 23XI is behind in development and will probably be playing catchup for the first couple of races in 2022.
With that being said, Kurt Busch and Bubba Wallace seem like too talented of a duo not to collect at least one win between the two of them next season.
#1 Will Kurt Busch be a game changer for 23XI Racing?

Kurt Busch has been called a lot of things throughout his NASCAR Cup Series career. A hot head, a dirty driver, a loudmouth, and a champion at one point. He has been a distraction, an embarrassment, and a terrifying man to be around during other times. He has changed his ways, though, and has turned into one of the most positive guys in the garage. He has also managed to stay competitive with a less than stellar GCR, making him a guy who can make the best of a bad situation.
And that’s what 23XI Racing needs right now. Someone who can take swings at car adjuments and get the best out of it. Wallace is still way too green in the Cup Series to make those kinds of distinctions, meaning that having a 20-year veteran like Busch is extremely valuable. He has the tenacity, he has the star power, and he can win races. How could he not turn 23XI Racing into an eventual powerhouse?
