#5 Las Vegas Aces Assistant Vicki Johnson Heads to the Stars
According to ESPN, Las Vegas Aces assistant, Vicki Johnson will be the Dallas Wings’ next head coach. She will be replacing former head coach, Brian Agler, who was canned after the Stars missed the 2020 playoffs. He led the team to whooping 8-14, the second-worst record in organization history.
Johnson, who spent time coaching the WNBA team in San Antonio, will become the first black coach in WNBA history. She will also be responsible for a deep-seated rebuild that could take a few years to put all the right pieces in place.
#4 Vontaze Burfict gets arrested for battery in Las Vegas
NFL free agent linebacker Vontaze Burfict was arrested in Las Vegas last week for a misdemeanor battery charge. He was released from Clark County Detention Center after posting $1000 bail. The former Las Vegas Raider is best known for his helmet to helmet hit on Indianapolis Colts player Jack Doyle, which got him suspended from the league. He has since committed to working on his playing style.
Unfortunately for Burfict, a misdemeanor battery charge is a good look for NFL teams right now. The charge further proves that the man still has some trouble containing his anger.
#3 Jon Gruden tries to rally the Raiders after 43-6 loss to the Falcons
The Las Vegas Raiders losing to the Atlanta Falcons a few weeks ago was humiliating and cooled off any talks of a playoff run. In fact, the Raiders are listed with a 42% chance of making the playoffs this season, and even coach John Gruden didn t mince words during a press conference after the lopsided game.
“I’d just like to apologize to Raider Nation and compliment the Falcons, they played one hell of a football game, and we did not,” Gruden said postgame. “Turnovers, the penalties, it’s inexcusable and it’s a reflection of me. We’re a lot better team than that… We’ve got to get up off the mat and fight better as a coaching staff and as a football team.”
The Raiders are running out of chances to make it playoffs, which is making the season hard to watch. The current prediction is that the Raiders can still make the playoffs with two more losses, but they can t come against the Dolphins or the Colts. If they can manage to defeat those two wildcard teams, they’ll become the likely favorite to make it into the playoffs.
#2 Kurt Busch reflects on Cup Series career
Former Cup Series champion, Kurt Busch, finished in the top-ten this season, amassing one win, seven top fives, and 19 top-tens in the process. He took a moment to look over his career with NASCAR.com last week and had a shocking revelation to make to fans.
I took things for granted when I was younger. If I could teach my younger self to take a deep breath and don t put so much emotion and high and low into every race,” Busch said during an interview. “Just chill out a bit. I just thought it was all about me, me, me, over the years. I ve understood it s about the team.
Keep in mind that Busch has had several run-ins with other drivers throughout his career, was frequently heard on radio cussing out his entire team, and even threatening a pit reporter.
#1 Jets coach admits to orginally wanting Henry Ruggs III in 2020 draft
According to the Athletic, Jets head coach Adam Gase wanted to take a chance on Henry Ruggs III during the 2020 draft. Unfortunately for the Jets however, they had a much more pressing issue at left tackle, which prompted them to draft Mekhi Becton instead. The Raiders would go on to draft Henry Ruggs III in the first round, making him the first wide receiver picked from his class.
The Jets would then go to select wide receiver, Denzel Mims, who turned out to be a decent pick for the team. Of course, Mims missed the first seven weeks with a nagging hamstring injury but stands with as many catches as Henry Ruggs III at this point in the season. He hasn t reached the endzone yet however, which might make Ruggs III the better overall pick
