What Happened in Las Vegas Sports Last Week (Mar 1 – 7)

What a week in Las Vegas sports! You might want to sit down for this one.

#5 John Hunter Nemecheck holds off Kyle Busch to win at Las Vegas

John Hunter Nemechek held off Kyle Busch on a late restart to win the Bucked Up 200 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The victory is Nemecheck’s first of the season and the 7th of his Camping World Truck Series career. The win also guarantees Nemecheck a spot in NASCAR’s four-round, elimination playoff format, which could lead him to the very first championship of his NASCAR career. If nothing else, he deserves credit for holding off home track favorite Kyle Busch, who has dominated the series in years past.

#4 Fans react to being allowed at Las Vegas Golden Knights games

Going back to normal. That’s what the world is trying to achieve after the coronavirus pandemic brought everything to a screeching halt and it hasn’t been easy. In fact, between the Las Vegas Raiders not being allowed to have fan attendance and the NHL holding their 2020 season in a bubble, fans have been missing out on what should be a very connecting experience. Fortunately for some Las Vegas Golden Knights fans, however, the organization is allowing up 20% of capacity at games.

“We love this team because it s Vegas-born, one fan told the Las Vegas Journal. We love this team because of everything they ve done for the community. It s our turn to support them.

#3 Ben Beshore comments on Kyle Busch’s former Crew chief

Kyle Busch and Adam Stevens reportedly decided to go their separate ways at the end of the 2020 season,  prompting Joe Gibbs Racing to pair the two-time Cup Series champion with Ben Beshore. Interestingly enough, it later came out that Stevens and Busch’s departure wasn’t as amicable as originally thought, and the two were very frustrated with each other.

With that being said, Ben Beshore was seemingly in the hot seat when asked about his former mentor, Adam Stevens. However, he decided to take the high road and talk up his former teacher when asked about him during an interview.

I worked for Adam for four years, Beshore said last month in Daytona. We had a lot of great success on that team. I m not going to say anything bad about him, by any means. But from my standpoint, I m just going to do it my way, I guess.

#2 Marcus Mariota refusing to move?

Marcus Mariota continues to be a hot topic of debate during the offseason, but it looks like things are starting to get difficult. According to new reports Mariota is supposedly hoping to released from the team during the offseason and is even outright refusing to restructure his contract to facilitate the trade. It is also being said that the Las Vegas Raiders want to trade the former Heisman-winning quarterback for a first or second-round pick, but Mariota isn’t budging.

We all know his contract is an issue. The easy thing is to say, Well look, you could trade for the guy and rip up his contract. The player needs to play ball on that, Greg Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal said Wednesday. From what I am hearing – at least from Mariota s camp – is that they are not willing to play ball on the contract.

#1 Raiders in the trade talks about Trent Brown

According to NFL analyst  Ian Rappaport, the Las Vegas Raiders are talking about trading Trent Brown to another team. Furthermore, Las Vegas team owner,  Mike Mayock, has made statements that seem to imply that Brown staying with the Raiders depends on whether he stays in shape or not. The owner also claimed that he was the best right tackle in the league when committed, but there are still some big questions about whether he really is or not.

Of course, a lot of that has to do with him not following Covid-19 protocols in 2020, which resulted in several members of his team missing games, but also because of his subpar performance. Another big problem is Brown’s 14 million dollar price tag, making it very easy to justify getting rid of him. In fact, the Raiders could probably clear a lot of cap space by releasing Brown and could start to use that towards a second-string quarterback to eventually replace Marcus Mariota.
