#4 Kurt Busch will likely miss out of championship four at Phoenix Raceway
While Kyle Busch was busy doing interviews in victory lane after almost a year without a win, Kurt Busch was quietly mulling his chances of making it to the final four after Sunday’s race at Texas. Unfortunately for Busch, who has been behind the eight ball ever since an engine failure at Kansas Motor Speedway, his chances range from slim to none heading into Martinsville Raceway.
In fact, Kurt Busch is currently 81 points below the cutline and needs a win at Martinsville to advance to the final four. Busch isn’t the only one needing a win to make the final four, however, as Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman, and Martin Truex Jr find themselves virtually in the same situation. This means that Busch will have to duke it out with three other potential contenders to make the final four.
It might be a long shot for Kurt Busch to make the final four of his career, but that’s what racing is all about. It’s about the thrill of watching a dark horse coming up through the field and steal the win for themselves. Hopefully, that’s what happens for Kurt Busch at Martinsville; otherwise he will have to wait another year to get title number two.
