#5 Kyle Busch finally breaks winless streak at Texas Motor Speedway
It may have taken almost a calendar year, several agonizingly long rain delays, and 334 laps, but Kyle Busch finally got back to victory lane last Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway. While the victory won’t help Busch win the championship, especially since he was eliminated in the round of 12 a couple of weeks ago, it does keep his streak of 16 straight seasons with a victory alive.
Of course, that is little comfort to a man chasing his second consecutive championship and the third of his Cup Series career, but it’s nice to see the Las Vegas native finally find some success after months of poor results. It is also a sign that Busch, 35 years old, can still be a threat in the Cup Series for years to come.
Busch will have to wait another year to chase his third consecutive championship, but a victory at Texas is at least a big step in the right direction. Whether he can continue to perform at this level and nab more wins before the season is over remains to be seen, but earning a 57th victory at NASCAR’s highest level of competition is a huge feather in the man’s cap.
