Anything is better when it’s free, right? You don’t have to spend a ton of money to have fun exploring Las Vegas. Check out these free things to do in Downtown Vegas.
1. Fremont Street Viva Vision Light Show
The first free thing to do in downtown Vegas is on Fremont Street Experience. A canopy covers its walkway that doubles as a video screen. This is the largest video screen in the world at 1,375 feet long and 90 feet wide. Every night the screen is used for the Viva Vision Light Show. These lighted displays include music by bands like The Chainsmokers, Steve Aoki, Tiesto, The Killers, and Imagine Dragons. You can watch these shows for free! They start at the top of the hour, every hour from 6 pm to 2 am.
2. Live Music on Fremont Street
Fremont Street Experience also hosts free live concerts nightly. Every night starting at 6 pm, you can catch a cover band performing on one of three outdoor stages. Regular performers include cover bands of the ‘80s, rock ‘n’ roll, country, modern-day hits, and Dancing DJs.
3. History at Main Street Station
Next, visit Main Street Station Hotel & Casino to see a collection of antiques. These items can be viewed throughout the hotel for free. At the front desk, you can get a brochure with a map of where the antiques are located and take a self-guided tour. Some of the artifacts on display include chandeliers from the Coca-Cola Building in Austin, Texas, and the Figaro Opera House in Paris, France, as well as a portion of the Berlin Wall. It’s like a scavenger hunt!
4. A Real Golden Nugget
You don’t have to play the slots to strike it rich; see the largest piece of gold free of charge. The Golden Nugget Las Vegas is home to a real golden nugget. The 61-pound Hand of Faith golden nugget sits on display in the hotel lobby. This is the largest gold nugget in existence and the second largest ever to be discovered. It was found in Australia in 1980.
5. The Oldest Casino
Last, visit the Golden Gate Hotel & Casino to learn some Las Vegas history. This is the oldest casino in Vegas; it’s been around for over 100 years! This place has stood the test of time. If only its walls could talk. Visit the property to learn about the early days of the city, gambling, prohibition, and more.
