I notice the image first.

A seductive, blue-tinged being that demands attention.

Next, I see the vibrators.

I’m standing in front of the Magic Wand Pleasure as Art Sculpture, a unique work made from Magic Wands that have been repurposed into an art installation.

The sculpture is the creation of artist Dafne Blade, and it’s currently on display as part of the Sex in Space exhibit at the Erotic Heritage Museum in Las Vegas. The piece looks like a throne pulled from an erotic fantasy. Over 100 Magic Wands into its making.

“As lovers of sci-fi, Dafne Blade’s art provides a truly magical addition,” Erotic Heritage Museum curator Kayla Adams said. “Their art adds excellent commentary to the history of self-indulgence and human sexuality. We are so excited we get to be a part of this sculpture’s story.”

Blade’s “throne” celebrates pleasure and sensuality with a futuristic, sci-fi twinge. One side shows the painted being in blue, a physical embodiment of desire. The evocative scene has an ethereal, almost mystical allure. When you visit the Erotic Heritage Museum, this is the side that you’ll see first.

The other side of the piece is a mass of jutting and erect Magic Wands. They look like royal scepters, powerful and striking.

“I ended up dedicating 12 to 15 hours every single day of December just to pump out this work,” Blade said when describing the sculpture.  “There was a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into it.”

The Magic Wand Pleasure as Art Sculpture was born from competition. Vibratex, the sole North American importer of the Magic Wand brand, hosted a contest where creatives were asked to transform the iconic Magic Wand into a moving expression of “Pleasure as Art.” Blade’s work was chosen by a distinguished panel of sex experts and LGBTQ activists.

You can interact with Blade and experience their powerful vision in person.

On September 3, Blade will be at the Erotic Heritage Museum from 6 – 8 pm to show their work and discuss how pleasure can be used as an art form. She’ll be joined by Dr. Lynn Comella, author of Vibrator Nation and professor of gender and sexuality studies at UNLV. Dr. Comella will discuss the importance of the Magic Wand.

All proceeds from this intimate event (after processing fees) will be donated to the LGBTQ Connection.

Buy your tickets here. Each purchase includes a free drink at the museum’s bar after the show.
