Lisa Marie Presley was the only daughter of the late King of Rock “n” Roll, Elvis Presley. She was also the sole heir to his vast estate. Her passing on January 12 at the age of 54 shocked the entertainment community. She suffered an apparent cardiac arrest.
Like the rest of the world, Vegas is mourning.
Presley’s life has always been a matter of public interest. From her marriages to the tragedies she faced in private, people’s curiosity has never waned. Unfortunately, like her father, she was taken too soon.
Lisa Marie Presley shared a lot with her dad. She shared his brooding charisma, his hooded eyes, insolent smile, and the low, sultry voice. She released several rock albums in the 2000s, and even appeared on stage with Richard Hawley and Pat Benatar.
Presley worked tirelessly in Las Vegas to preserve the legacy of her late father. And this is one of the reasons why fans and tourists in the Entertainment Capital of the World honored her memory. After the news of her passing spread, the outside of Vegas’ famed Graceland Wedding Chapel was surrounded by candles, flowers, and photos of the late King of Rock and his young daughter.
Lisa Marie Presley’s Ties with Las Vegas
Las Vegas was special to Lisa Marie Presley. It was not just because her father spent most of his peak years here. Or because her parents got married in this city. It was also because Graceland Wedding Chapel was the first chapel ever to conduct weddings that were performed by Elvis impersonators.
Las Vegas has a soft spot for Lisa Marie.
She spent some of her youth here. For example, when her father launched his first-ever Las Vegas Residency at the International Hotel (now Westgate Las Vegas) between 1976 and 1979, she was here. In 1975, she met Michael Jackson of the then Jackson 5 when he was in town performing at the MGM Hotel. They later got married in 1994, and their marriage lasted for two years.
Lisa Marie Presley headlined her own show at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay in 2003. She came back here in 2015 when Westgate Hotel Las Vegas opened its exhibit of “Graceland Presents Elvis.”
Before her death, Lisa Marie Presley was really involved in working with Austin Butler, the lead actor in the movie biopic, “Elvis,” which was released in 2022. The film chronicled her father’s life in Las Vegas to keep his image alive for the younger generation.
Therefore, Vegas is mourning one of its own.
