Worst Moments of the Las Vegas Aces' 2024 Season So Far

Like it or not, these are the worst moments of the Las Vegas Aces' 2024 season so far.

#4 Candace Parker retiring during preseason

The Las Vegas Ace's first big hit came when Candace Parker announced her retirement from the league. Las Vegas lost one of its key players and had very little time to find a suitable substitute. This, combined with Chelsea Grey and Riquiana Wiliams' lingering issues, created a depth problem. The team simply couldn't back up the starters.

Grey might return soon, but the Aces still need a replacement for Parker.

#3 Losing to the Phoenix Mercury

There’s nothing like a first loss of the season. The Las Vegas Aces lost by 10 points to the Phonix Mercury in the third game of the 2024 season. It's an ugly look for a team that once won eight straight games.

The Mercury had the Aces trailing in three of the game’s four quarters and never allowed them to catch up. Las Vegas was also outscored in the final two quarters, which marks one of their worst second-half efforts so far. They were led by Kelsey Plum, who scored 27 points, 5 assists, and 2 rebounds. Wilson added 21 points, 2 assists, and 13 rebounds in the loss.

The big problem in this game is the bench players, who didn’t do their part. These include Alysha Clark, Megan Gustafson, and Katie Martin, who combined for six points, ten rebounds, and three assists.

#2 Several Las Vegas Aces members joining U.S Olympic team

Several Las Vegas Aces players are set to compete in the Summer Olympics, which could be a major disadvantage for the team. The U.S. final roster list, which came out in June, included A’ja Wilson, Jackie Young, Kelsey Plum, and Chelsea Grey.

The Aces have too many stars at risk—anything can happen during the games. Another issue is how rested the players will be after the Olympic break.

This might be the kiss of death for the Aces. If anything happens to these four, say good to a third-straight championship.

 #1 Losing 3 games in a row

The Las Vegas Aces lost three games in June 20224, something that hasn't happened since 2019. It's also notable that these losses come from rematches.  It almost seems like people are catching on to Becky Hammon's coaching strategy and making adjustments to neutralize her team.

The losses to the Storm and the Lynx are particularly problematic because they'll likely be title contenders, which means the Aces will eventually run into them.
