The implosion of the
Tropicana is imminent, new casinos seem to pop up every year, and restaurants come and go almost as fast as tourists. Long-time Vegas locals know the truth— this city is ever-changing.
Except for Carlota.
Carlota of Xtreme Radio X107.5 has been a staple on the Las Vegas radio scene since 1998. Her familiar voice from 10 AM to 3 PM every Monday through Friday evokes a sense of nostalgia for listeners who grew up listening to her.

Radio is Community
Although often overlooked, local radio is the glue that binds a city. No one understands this better than Carlota.
In July 2023, Carlota returned to Xtreme Radio X107.5, where her Las Vegas radio career began. She came fresh off a two-year stint on California radio.
When I ask Carlota why she believes local radio is so critical, she states, “Because radio has always been a part of the community. There's an emotional connection. There is friendship. I have a relationship with this community—that is the importance of local radio.”
Carlota’s midday shift is consistently in the top five in the Vegas market, proving her point.
Carlota first worked for Xtreme Radio X107.5 from 1998 to 2002. She then switched to KOMP 92.3, where she stayed until 2020, giving her over two decades of experience in Vegas. Listeners often start conversations with her, not as a celebrity but as an old friend. She's often been told that her return to the airwaves “has gotten people off the apps” and tuning back into radio.
Xtreme Radio X107.5, bolstered by Carlota's comeback, now leads as Vegas's top rock station, surpassing KOMP 92.3 by significant margins.

Music and Region
Like grunge in Washington state, popular music is regional. The alternative on the East Coast is not the same as the alternative on the West Coast. Carlota explains, “Look, Oingo Boingo is huge on this side of the planet, but not so much in Ohio. Right? So, when I play Oingo Boingo here, I know that it's a big deal for a lot of people on this side.”
This is the community that Carlota refers to. She knows her audience and plays music specific to the area.
Nostalgia is the feeling you get when you tune in to your local station and hear a warm, familiar voice. Carlota’s show is a glue that binds long-time locals together, and unlike the Tropicana, she isn’t going anywhere.
